    OT, but related...

Years ago when Ralph Kiner, the great Pittsburgh Pirates slugger, was doing color commentary for the Mets radio broadcasts, he was on the air with the pre-game show. As it was a Mother's Day, the broadcast went like this:
"It's beautiful Sunday afternoon here at Shea Stadium, and it's Mother's Day; so, to all the Mother's listening, Happy Birthday!"

    True story.

If you are a father on this day then the greatest gift that you will ever receive is the love of your children. Treate them like the treasures they are and love, peace of heart and mind, and a lifetime of memories will be your reward. If not then you will be like my father. Someone I remember as a person that I hated with all my heart and soul because he treated my mother horrendously. Remember to treat the mother of your children with great respect because the children are watching and will surely remember every detail.

    HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL!

    Re: Happy Fathers Day!

Wow, Sam! It's easy for those of us who had generally good fathers who were loving or who did the best they knew how, or maybe made mistakes but not too bad, to forget that many were not so furtunate.

I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive him, since it is a commandment from God, and there's an amazing peace that comes to one's soul when they forgive all who have wronged them. When we hold on to an offence, it causes us to continue to be a victem, harming our our own peace while having no real effect on the offender, so it's counterproductive. Even more counterproductive if someone seeks revenge, becoming what they hate. I believe God, the father we can always count on, was giving us wise council with the forgiveness thing, better than anything we could have come up with.

I hope all your days are filled with perfect peace,
    David

When I was forty-one I took a writing class. One of the assignements was to write about a day that had a significant meaning in my life. I chose to wirte about the day my father died. I was seventeen at the time of his death. The assignment was very cathartic. Reliving that day by writing about it allowed me to realize that I did in fact love my father. I shared this with my mother and she shared with me the horrendous things that my father did and said to her. I realized then that she and I would have to forgive him and let the past remain burried along with him.

I shared my thoughs about my father in the hope that every father reading it would completely realize that being a father is a great gift; and that everyone need to be careful not abuse or neglect the gift.

    Styxx,

I think we still hold the record (jointly) for most children on this forum. Maybe someone should donate a prize to us! (No, we don't need free psychiatric evaluations - we've already been diagnosed!)

Happy belated fathers day to you six times over!

    Rob
