    Randy!

First your musical is to be produced ...

... and now you're winning multiple competitions!

So tell me ... how does it feel to be an overnight success?

I want to add an idea for the future:

I think it would be great to post the original theme that was given to all the participants also into the Poll Results List, just for to compare to.

So now there is only a comparing between the posted works from the participants..... .

Than maybe many more people then only 38 would vote?!

    My Best

Wll, the name is now with the number...

CONGRATULATIONS Randy on you presentation on challenge 13. Your work reminded me of a late night (after hours) jam session with all the musicians poking around with the melody. Nice

Re: It's time to vote in the Orchestration Challenge 13!

Thanks, Gunther, David, Diligamus, Rich and Trent! wow--this was quite a stimulating round with the ol' Challenge event!

I think that it would be an improvement if the exact ending date for the event could be established clearly at the on set. It's a bit vague the way it's been done, where we're never quite sure when the voting stops being tallied, when the winner will be announced etc. I think we can easily just include that info when the official voting thread is started.

Gunther, I agree that to re-post the original theme along with the wrap-up would be good. The score and MIDI file are still on the original thread, but it could be on this voting thread also. Let's request that this happens next time--Well, it could actually still be edited into this thread starting post for #13.

hehe Diligamus--Yeah it's awesome to finally be raking in the big bucks with my music.

Rich R - Your description is perfect for what I had in mind with my take-off on Roberto's theme. Even add some cigarette smoke to that late-hour jam session--That's why they're coughing!

ANd thanks to you, Trent,--I hope you understand from my previous posts that along with everyone else here, I think you did magical work with this theme.

Tom, Prince of Music - Sounds like you're not completely happy with the way this has gone, even though you didn't enter. As far as the stated guidelines go, there isn't a specific time limit placed on the length of entries, but on Sean's page explaining the Challenges, he does say that the idea is to arrange a couple minutes of music. I think there's a reason that the average length of entries hovers between 2 and 3 minutes.

As for what's acceptably used in the recording of the arrangement/composition, here's what the info page says about the contest:

"...They (the contests) challenge you to use Garritan libraries and your own creativity to orchestrate a certain theme in any way you want. Any Garritan library user may participate. Participants generally have around four weeks to create their orchestrations...Entries are then anonymously posted and voted upon by Northern Sound Source forum members. The winner becomes the writer for the next Challenge's theme.

    Rules:

    1) Your entry should have substantially been created using Garritan libraries (GPO, JABB, Strad)..."

And, as has been true of every Challenge entry I can think of, the rule of having been "substantially...created using Garritan libraries" has always been the case, including all the entries in Challenge 13.

In my entry for this round I used a few sound effects and a vocal loop, consisting of perhaps 1% of the sound heard in my entry. The music itself was 100% GPO and JABB.

Clearly my entry was well within the guidelines as they're written, and I'm surprised to hear anyone say they think I did anything which made for a "less-than-level playing field."

As you said, Tom, "...I know this is ment to be fun..." and that's certainly right on. So, perhaps all the fuss in your post isn't exactly in the spirit of the fun?

    Thanks again, everyone!

Thumbs up Re: It's time to vote in the Orchestration Challenge 13!

    Congrats to Randy.

This was a great one, lots of good entries, congrats to all, job well done.

i still haven't entered one, but hopefully i can get one done for the next.

I didn't know some of the entants from the last one still haven't come forward, this is surprising because they were all well deserving of our applauds. Maybe they just went on to something else, got busy and forgot.

I'm with you, Randy. One of the Garritan Forum's richest assets is the global diversity of our participants. And as such, the notion of a "deadline" takes on a whole new meaning. This phenomenon applies not only to the voting deadline, but also to all deadlines. The submission deadline is equally as vulnerable, as the entrants are well aware.

I learned this from teaching for an online university where I had students all over the world. In fact, I had students in the military who were not allowed to disclose where in the world they were! An equitable solution was to choose midnight in a particular time zone and date. Even though it is arbitrary, as long as the rules are posted far enough in advance, everyone has the same time window regardless of their respective time zones, provided that they're not constantly traveling . . . . as were some of my students!

Just joking my friend.....Congratulations on a job well done.......I didnot stop to think that this was your track......but as farr as slow goes......do not feel bad.......I put in at least two to three weeks work on mine and only recieved two votes...... but agian this was my very first composition......and you know the other challenges I have........oh....yeah...........mine was number five......the only thing that suprised me was that no one mentioned the fact that I was able to superimpose a canon 4 times over using Robertos theme....I felt this came out fairly well.....In fact It surprised me......You'll find it in the last section of the work........anyway........I am very happy for you........CONGRATULATIONS...............
