VSL demo -- rarely heard 20th century master composer revisited

Here is my performance of Howard Hanson's adagio from his 6th Symphony. Hanson was unashamed to explore passion and melody at time when it wasn't "in vogue." He deserves to be better known.

    Comments welcome.

Very nice, Jay. Great rendition of the Hanson excerpt! Hanson (like Barber) is welcome to my ears.

If I may ask, which strings are you using in the opening? Is that App? Or a mixture of Orch/App? or Chamber/App?

Thanks. I ask because I am just ready to purchase a string section (only own Solo Strings at the moment), and am thinking of buying App Strings first.

Very great what you did, Jay!

The mix within the large dynamic..., very very nice!

    Thank you Jay!

the brass sound staggering realistic. I love Hanson's work and his Mosaics piece is one of my favorites.

Not familiar with the 6th Symphony but after hearing this, I'm going to check it out that's for sure!!!

nice job Jay, as usual. I have to start giving my Vienna SE a workout soon!

Thank you Nickie, Mahlon, Gunther and Dave for the support.

Mahlon-- The strings throughout are the VSL Appassionata Strings with some VSL solo strings layered on top.

Dave-- also check out Hanson's 3rd Symphony-- magnificent!

Jay, this is beautiful work. Some of what I never heard before. I also will check out more of Hansons music. Simply fantastic work on this. As usual..Joseph..

    Thanks Jay!

I discovered Hanson not too long ago, I think he deserves to be more well-known!

He is such a gifted composer

I love his 3rd symphony as well...

And I wouldn't be surprised if John Williams likes him too

Thks for sharing this, great rendition!

Jay, thank you very much for your remarkable work to give Hanson's the recognition that he deserves!
I have never heard of him before and I know about other composers who have been similarly neglected.
I find his music very powerful and moving!
I did a search on him and found out he has also written for piano (which is my instrument). I looked for his sheet music but found none... At least I can hear it at Naxos.
p.s. Do correct his name, as I looked for Hason and didn't find any...

Thanks Joseph, Ivan and Sunbird. It makes me very happy to share the work of less famous composers that I think have done wonderful work.

Unfortunately, sheet music by Hanson is very hard to come by. The 6th symphony is not in print and it took me nearly 2 years to gain access to a handwritten score.

Sunbird-- sorry about the mistyping of his name. He did a lovely piece for piano and orchestra called Fantasy Variations on a Theme of Youth.

    Best,
    Jay
