    What do you think?

Gary Garritan, Kirk Hunther, East West, Sonifox, VSL, Peter Siedlaczek or....?

You can't, can you? Sounds like an actual 40's Hollywood-type movie track.

I'd guess that GPO is closest to that type of sound.

I'm thinking if you mixed a library like GPO/VSL/Kirk Hunter's with a library like Chris Hein Horns/Broadway BigBand/Garritan's Big Band you could get close.

What really escapes me is how the WARMTH of the instruments from this recording can be emulated... All of my mixes come out sounding much "thinner", despite my best efforts to make each line as dynamic and expressive as possible.

    Sigh.

Try to "overcompress" string parts at the same time giving them (much) more reverb than to other sections, then apply tape emulation + grungelizer plug-in on master fader. That might get you closer to this sound

It's not so much WHAT library to use as it would be HOW to use it.HOW do you manipulate the sounds,HOW do you get inside the head of the composer,How do you use EQ,panning etc. to acheive the desired result?

Pretty much any software/hardware out today can produce orchestral soundtracks of varying qualities. But in the end,it's more about the way a person uses the gear...

I have experimented now with Gary`s GPO, Kirk`s Emerald, Peter Siedlaczek`s Strings and some VSL. Playing them all together is very nice .

Skyy38, you are right! I think the most important thing is the equing and first the reverb.

An interesting result I get when I mix the reverbinstruments from EWQLSO to the others and use there the equalizer very hard, smile.

GunJinn, I have downloaded the demoplugs from Samplitude, and there is something to simulate the old sound.... . Whow, they work great, also the reverb is very great!

AlexDavis, when I do this all, the sound is getting very warmth.

I will experiment again and then post something here.

Sounds interesting! Do you have any string samples - just a phrase or two?

Right now I'm getting together my new Q6600 rig, but I will remember to post here some samples with description of techniques used.
