Fanfare: US Open 2007 Grand Slam Trip!

OK, this may make somebody laugh....but I'm OK with that.

I just found out in the last week that I'm going (with my best friend) to the US Open tennis grand slam in NYC for the first time this year. It got me so excited that I wrote this little orchestral fanfare just to celebrate.

It's a GPO-only project, originally written in Sibelius, then transferred as a MIDI file to SONAR 6PE. I touched up the MIDI velocities, added Mod Wheel data, routed it through the GPO K2 player, panned it in SONAR using the Surround Panner, and then ran the results through a convolution reverb (PerfectSpace) and my BBE Sonic Maximizer VST.

It was a fun little project.

    Cheers to all!

    Hey there, Mike "Infinite5ths"

Congratulations on getting to go to the US Open tennis grand slam in NYC! The excitement in your post got Me jazzed just hearing about it.

I appreciate you explaining in your post what the process was for putting this project together. It's always illuminating to get an idea of how people have worked their music out.

And the piece was as stirring and exciting as the message you posted. NOw--go there and have a blast!

    Hi folks! Thanks for listening.

germancomponist: "One can hear the feelings between the lines..." << OK that was a terrific quote because it describes grand slam tennis games too!

rbowser: Hey Randy! I'm glad you liked it. Congrat's again on the show in Oregon.

    Hi,

it sounds really nice. Great mood.
But are you sure. Is this really a fanfare.
Ore make I a mistake due to the translation into german with the word: fanfare?

Thanks for checking out the clip!

I'm using the term "Fanfare" in a very loose manner. Basically I mean "short-form, mostly loud, not very developed orchestral work".

The definition on this page is also close to what I was thinking: http://www.brottmusic.com/educationm...c%20Jargon.htm

A true fanfare would be brass (and percussion if so desired). I'm not attempting to be that 'correct'. If somebody knows of a better term/category/class for a short loud work like this, please remind me. I've probably heard it and forgotten.

    Hi Mike,
You could call it OVERTURE TO THE GRAND SLAM.... It sounds to me like a visit to Grand Canyon or some great place in Nature...
    A nice work.

I LIKE that. I guess I didn't choose "overture" in the first place because I thought it was too short a work for that title. Maybe it's not too short...

While titles are being bandied about, perhaps you might
consider Intrada to the Grand Slam... it would seem
suitable to the brevity and the leading, emotional,
anticipatory tone of the work, Mike.

But Mike, I'd really like to hear you take this further.
There's some strong material in this that left me wanting
more... to hear it developed and explored and elaborated.

In any event, touchdown! Or have I gotten my games
confused still once again...? Well, regardless... the
    music deserves that one anyway.

    My best,

I agree with David, more please. As soon as you are back from the Grand Slam you work on extending this wonderful start.

And, by the way, David, I think touchdown is a NASA term. Who has time for sports, we got music to write.

My Best Infinite5ths (which bar do you go to for those?) on a nice grand intro.
We dream to write and we write to dream.
