    Re: New Brass

Sounds very good and very usable! The only big band brass Ive heard that compares on a level with this is this from Sonivox. I'm definitely on the market for a library like this, but am unwilling to pay around $2500. I feel like at that price its much better to just hire some sax players when I need them, AFAIC.

I can hear there's a lot of varying attacks you can apply. My only quibble with this very good demo is in the high trumpet section (eg: around 9-10 secs in) which is obviously very exposed, where the sound is a bit uniform - is that something that could be varied with attack/pitch/vibrato? This is getting really close to an exciting big band sound, and is already there in parts, IMHO.

Looking forward to hearing some more!
    Best wishes,

    Re: New Brass

    Hi Chris,

I think it sounds very good.

Although I must say that the overall sound is quite orientated towards what all of my frieds except of me would call "old-daddy-jazz" (sorry, no offending inteded, but it is the truth). And I am over 40. If you can push it more towards a Roger Cicero mix or even get some Salsa fire or R&B groove into it this would not hurt imo.

Now you will say this is the arrangement, well, but perhaps it is also in the recording?

All your strings belong to me!

    Thanks for your comments,

The purpose of posting this piece at this early stage is to ask you for suggestions.
What do you expect from a new, Pop/Jazz Brass-Library?

    Re: New Brass

For me it should sound like two of the definitive brass sections:

The Earth, Wind and Fire Brass
the Jerry Hey studio brass sections that come from L.A.

    Re: New Brass

    ...and to be really specific:

For Pop/Funk brass to be really authentic, you need to have access to three different trumpets played by three different players; not one trumpet that has been pitch shifted or time shifted to "simulate" different players. The difference is obvious. To the best of my knowledge even BBB hasn't done this yet. They just give you one of each brass instrument, and then you're left trying to simulate the rest of the players. I really wish that some developer (hint, hint) would just do it right and sample three different players. Then all the unisons used in pop/funk brass wouldn't sound so synthy and phony. Hope this helps.
