    Question question about ASUS MOBO

    Hi,
I might be building new DAW and I was looking at this mobo:

    ASUS P5K Deluxe/WiFi-AP (Intel® P35 chipset)

    more specs here: http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...46&modelmenu=1

I want to drive a Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 on it.

    Any1 know if it's good Mobo ?
    Any1 know something about this Intel® P35 chipset ???

Or maybe I should get one with 975x chipset like this one:
    http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...98&modelmenu=2

    or this one:
    http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...41&modelmenu=2

One more thing: I'm using M-audio Firewire 410 card

    Re: question about ASUS MOBO

I have P5K Deluxe with Quad 6600 in my new rig, back in shop they told me it's the best choice for Q6600 today. I rarely believe that shop-talk, so I double checked this in different techie forums. Now I am very happy with it, just like I was happy with my veteran Asus P4C800 Deluxe.

As to P5W models I wouldn't recommend them, they are confirmed to work with Q6600, but they're old models (heck, >1 year is old in comp world) and price is about the same as that of P5K.

As to Q6600, try to buy newer model, with G0 stepping (less heating). It should have this sequence of letters at the end of serial number: SLACR

    Re: question about ASUS MOBO

    I'm thinking....
I'm a cubase User - it's not multi-cpu ready... maybe someday but not now...
so 4 cores - do I really need them ??

    Maybe I should get a Core2 E6600 instead of a Quad Q6600 ?????

it's always 25% less money on the CP.... but Q6600 has 8MB of cache... is it really worth to buy this 25% more and have 4 cores ???

Quad price is so cheap these days that choice is clear, just go quad core.

just wait a bit for upgrade, or.. crossgrade to Sonar
