    Evolution -- The Final Stage!!

A few days ago, I posted a short piece to illustrate some comments. It was a simple structure, and easy to play. Then, I renovated and expanded that piece, which became somewhat more complex. Then I did the final stage of evolution. But the piece demanded more evolution, so here it is.

This is the absolute final stage of evolution of Illustration Dance.

    Hemlock and Thistle

For comparison, if you wish, here are the previous stages, in order.

    Illustration Dance

    Jumpernickel

    Chuckleberry

All feature the GPO Steinway, and were made using Sonar, including the wav, which was converted to mp3 using Cakewalk Pyro.

Well Richard, I don't know if "evolution" can ever really be at a final stage But, in terms of this piece, I'd say you can put down your pen, and rest easy. This is really good writing - I think this is my favorite of the pieces you have posted; it may be that I'm a sucker for motor rhythms (I am), but I find this captivating. It is the kind of piece that, were I a pianist, I would want to add to my repertoire. Alas, I play the guitar...

Congratulations on a fine achievement. This deserves a lot of listens!

    All the best,

    Hi, Richard

This has been quite an interesting exercise, the development of this piece, inspired as a musical reply to posted questions on composition and theme development.

Today's "Hemlock and Thistle" version seems like the most musically satisfying incarnation, with a greater degree of variety and subtlety throughout the arrangement.

Thank you for this unique "class room in The Listening Room" series.

A most satisfying conclusion [if it is a conclusion] to this
exercise in evolvement, Richard -- and, I think, the
strongest of the pieces, the most lyrical and transparent.

I can't help a slight sense, though, of a need for a fifth,
postludial episode to unhinge us back to our present state
and unwind the springs brought taut.

    My best,

Well, thank you, David. An amendment or addenda of some sort is not out of the question. But for now, I am a bit weary of it, and will let it rest for a while.

Well done - I enjoyed listening to this. You obviously have a great time doing these pieces and it shows!

I agree this is the most enjoyable of the four.

It's times like this that the Garritan listening room is an amazing place to be.
