Ok, I will take credit for number #15. I really worked hard on using the JABB program I got.
I thought it would do better, but Mr. Cinemagic #11 had a really good entry.

Great work on 16, Karen. Yours is awesome. Though a waltz, sounds like it would go great with pictures, in a video or movie.
Great work on 15, Wrayer, fine jazz piece. Is it in 6/8, and can you tell me what that beat is called, like is it one of those ballroom dance beats that has a name? It sounds excellent!
Old Larry wrote number seventeen. Old Larry didn't do very well voting-wise.![]()

KE nice work on #16
Leaf nice pastorale for #14. The rhythm is a Brazilian merengue. I did the piece in 4/4 (sorry rbowser) It's hard to do a Spanish salsa piece in 3/4.
Old Larry Iloved the simplicity and the delicate way you treated the material in #17
Congrats to all - a difficult choice as always.

I did #4. Congrats to the winner, #11.

Well, I wrote 1 thing for this but ended up sending 4 entries. I regret doing that – 3 of the entries were not meant to be heard as stand alone pieces and I think they just cluttered up the field and lowered the quality. When I sent my entry to Sean I kind of panicked and wanted to have at least 1 semi-accessible piece up. I shouldn’t have – I should have just entered the one.
If you haven’t guessed, the one thing I wrote (and the only one I should have entered) is number 13, the Ives inspired piece I call “One Place in New England”.
Number 13 is made up of numbers 2,5 and 6. I say that as if they are separate pieces of music but they were all written on one staff and, when recorded as 13, rendered in 1 pass. Anyway, if you didn’t catch the relationship musically, maybe mathematically you could have seen it: 13 = 2+5+6. (Thanks Sean, that was clever).
Originally I was planning on putting a post in the Listening Room explaining how the three pieces were created to work together as a whole (i.e., things like the fact that the rondo theme of the march is the same as the accompaniment of the woodwind dance). I have thought better of it. First, since everyone has heard the pieces separately now such a post would lose most of its meaning and impact (another reason I wish I hadn’t entered them). But also I think a lot of people are beginning to get tired of this challenge.
There were a lot of good entries this time around. Congrats to all involved and particularly to the still unknown composer of entry #11.

"serious music" ... as if the rest of us are just kidding
And so wraps up another Garritan Challenge, and the entrants are slowly but surely stepping forward.
I enjoyed everyone's work on the simple theme I offered up. There's some effective arranging done in all versions, and I really appreciate the time and effort everyone put into the event.
Trent - very interesting revelation about your three entries! If you feel the timing isn't good right now to post the full piece of which these three are individual sections, maybe you could put that kind of post up a bit later? - I Do sympathize with what you're saying - After Challenge 12 I put up my own version of that theme, calling it "The 13th 12th"---buuut people weren't ready to hear yet again a theme that had become overly familiar. That post slipped into oblivion after just a handful of hits.![]()
Just hold on to it for awhile, and put it up later--how's that for an idea?
It will be Very interesting to see who did the beautiful #11 version!

(rbowser) happy winner of Challenges 11 and 13
It was hard to choose...all of the them are pretty good.
I like to see how people can follow different tendences when composing. There' s a country-like one Entry 3 (but also can be based on German music), very cool.
I voted entry 15...I loved the idea of that kind of Salsa. The mixing could be better, but Okay.
Moderators please tell me if I can't say what entry I voted, I'm just new here.
Best regards!!
