Randy, I so agree -- especially since there are so many rather large files. Soundclick too, is nice -- an account could be set up and all choices streamed one after the other without even having to "get" and "play" each one (ie, one link, one click of the play button would play them all). How's that for lazy! I bet we'd get ALOT more votes if we did what you suggest or soundclick on something similar. (If the moderator(s) want, I'd be happy to elaborate and/or help with that... i could put the challenges up on soundclick if you wish, in its own "band") Since I don't know who did them, that wouldn't be a concern.

As an example, here is my soundclick list -- you can play an individual song, or you can "stream" them all by clicking the play button at the very top (in the black bar just underneath the purple header with my name). So picture a list of all the challenges instead of my stuff. It could be that easy....

Great suggestion KE. That certainly would simplify the retrieval for voting. It really would be nice to involve more forum members in this endeavor.

well, i have all the mp3's. What I would need to go ahead is in order to do it "legally" is: permission from the composers of each to put them up on soundclick, and the OK from the moderator (whoever is in charge of the challenge thing, i'm a little unclear about that).

It would take a bit of work, but not too much, and if it makes listening easier, I'd be happy to do it.

Wow-That is so cool of you, Karen!

Sean is the Challenge man - The MP3s posted here are all hosted at his site. We need to hear from him about your Sound Click idea.

It seems to me that it would be Really helpful - People would just need to keep straight which # they're listening to and not get confused when they return to this thread to vote--that shouldn't be too tough.

It also seems to me that the participants wouldn't mind for their work to at least be temporarily at your Sound Click.

Let's just wait and see what Sean thinks about the idea.

Re: Vote for Orchestration Challenge 14!

some more detail: i would put them up as "stream only", no download, no license items. the soundclick agreement gives them rights to present the music of course, but the owner retains all copyrights. if I put some stuff up, they require that I am legally permitted to act as a representative for the music. They are very strict about that, which is why i'd need permission to put the songs up.

I would include an introduction on the "challenge 14" band page, something like this:

This is the Garritan Orchestration Challenge#14. These entries are renderings by the Garritan community of a melody by Randy Bowser. They are submitted anonymously to be voted upon. I have received permission from the authors to put these pieces on this site for this purpose.

And for the "homepage", I would use the www.garritan.com page.

Re: Vote for Orchestration Challenge 14!

oh, and I would name them entryNN where NN is the same entry number as on our site. so hopefully no confusion. also, they have to approve the new band -- can't remember how long that takes, but i think they are pretty fast about it -- i would not put them under my name, but their own area as described above, so it would be clear that I was not the composer, just a representative, etc. And then when we are done, there are a couple of options - I can just delete all the songs, or I could also, if people wished, leave them there but update them to include the composer's name. That would totally be up to each person.

Just my thoughts, Sean's and the composer's call. Sean could collect the OK's from the composers and just let me know he has them so I would not have any info about who is involved til voting is over.

This is all optional -- I mean I'm not pushing it, just offering if Sean et al thinks it would make things easier.

Karen, I think this would be terrific and dramatically enhance the listening process! Thank you in advance for your effort.

I'm really enjoying listening to everyone's composition. Good work everyone!

Hi, Karen, One consideration: I think for its free accounts, Soundclick limits the MP3s to 128kbps.

I'm with you, Leaf! With each pass, I try to perfect some aspect of my work. I've got a long way to go . . . but I can definitely see my progress.
