That's probably a good idea, to let the theme writer decide, bragging rights + gets to be the decider.![]()

Sean, you're really a good sport trying to make the current Challenge run on a schedule to everyone's satisfaction.
You're the guy in charge of the event, and I think it's fine for you to re-schedule the deadline. You suggested the change for very good reasons. This has nothing to do with people's work ethics or professionalism. It has to do with the practicality of keeping up with Real Life as well as this Forum event which is meant to be a fun, extra-curricular activity. - You, Sean, would be the last person guilty of "making too big a deal of this."
It Isn't that big of a deal. It'll be great if more people are able to participate due to a later deadline.

And thanks Sean for having such a level head during this ...
(I abstain from the voting though.)
Hi Everyone,
To be fair, as the Challenge setter, I’m not directly affected by the deadline nor time constraints surrounding this round of the Challenge as are the participants. So, I’ll defer to Sean and his good judgment to arrive at the official deadline.
That having been said, here is my perspective as an objective bystander:
I definitely can appreciate those who respect a deadline and work hard to meet that goal. However, if one goes back and read the chronology, it is clear that Sean proposed a deadline in order to solicit feedback from the group. Clearly, some would-be participants indicated that they would have to opt-out of this round due to other commitments – some of those commitments on this very Forum (Garritan Christmas CD, Halloween event, etc.) and also the significant seasonal constraints affecting most of us.
As Randy points out, and I wholeheartedly agree, the Challenge should be fun. To the extent that pushing the due date out to a point that allows more Forum members to participate and otherwise engage those who would not be able to enter, I am all in favor as it supports the goal of what I look for in this Challenge and ultimately fulfills the spirit in which this Challenge was intended.

I LOVE that idea. It sounds like a lot of fun. Maybe a Chopin prelude, or nocturn, (or one of Field's nocturns).Originally Posted by Prince of Music
Here's another idea for a different kind of challenge: Take a short, simple orchestral piece and strip out the melody, leaving only the harmony line. The challenge is to compose an original melody that fits the given harmony line.

Spooks! - The Movie
Are there any people who would be interested in a different set of challanges? ... Basically we'd could pick a short piano work, and then just orchestrate it. We could start with some fairly short works... so it should take people a MUCH shorter time to complete since you're just doing orchestration and not composition.I would love to do any such challange as suggested by Tom and Gary. There are many wonderful short pieces that can inspire such a work. Here's another idea for a different kind of challenge: Take a short, simple orchestral piece and strip out the melody, leaving only the harmony line. And how about a challange to compose to the words of a little poem? Or some kind of scenery or scenario??
