And it costs half the price of Logic Pro, I might add.

    And neither is 64-bits.

I think once OS X.5 (Leopard) is released, we will begin to see Logic Pro 8 and other applications like Kontakt 3 become 64 bit.

The current OS X.4 (Tiger) is not 64 bit, but rather 32 bit. So, there is no way Logic Pro 8 or K3 will function as 64 bit applications without a 64 bit OS.

So, 64 bit will soon be here !

I don't think that you can upgrade from an academic version

Smile, did you expect something else?

I am a cubase 4 user and I have heard that Yamaha, the new owner from Steinberg, will bring out many nice things in the next time.., 64bit working included..

From what I understand, Leopard will be released within a month or so - and these Mac programs will already be behind the curve.

I guess it buys them another upgrade cycle to charge for. But if the features are improved, maybe it's worth the cost.

It is odd timing though. People have waited for Logic 8 for how many years? And then it comes out as 32-bits just before the 64-bit OS.

We will see what happens once Leopard is released.

People that cant run Leopard on their machines will probably like the fact that L8 is still 32 bit compatible.
Anyway-in the tech specs i found this:
Internal audio resolution: 32-bit floating point; 64-bit precision where required
So hopefully Apple managed to deliver the best of both worlds.

I am very excited about this release and find the new features very promising.
I like the fact that they streamlined the look without totally reinventing the wheel and the new price tag will make it affordable to an even wider range of musicians.
    Whats not to like?

I wonder if Apple fixed that darn problem in Logic insofar as loading 3rd party multi-VIs without the CC7 affecting ALL channels. It's one of the reasons I went to Cubase 4 which handles VSTs much more elegantly than practically any other DAW on the market (although Sonar is pretty cool too in that it runs 64 bit mode).

nonetheless, I like the single window display. From having worked with Garageband on my Apple Macbook, it's a very streamlined and effective way to get ideas out fast.
