Interesting. I notice it concentrates on the hands only. In the future I wonder if they will incorporate body stance and physical expression, facial expressions and finger motions - and the many other subtleties of live conducting. Possibly an interesting teaching tool or rehearsal tool for conducting students - sort of like SmartMusic for conductors.
In theory there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice there is.

Let's see them incorporate firing the 3rd string violist who is always out of tune, inspiring ensembles of LESS quality than a pro orchestra to practice more, handling interviews by local media, telling the horns to play more softly so we can hear the winds, and making sure the traps percussion parts make sense and do not have some poor fellow beating a bass drum while holding a triangle.

    THEN I'll be impressed.

If pro is the opposite of con lets look beyond this....the opposite of congress must be progress...

I met someone a few months ago who said they were working on a similar program, but using those Wii controllers. He said they were planning on using both hands/controllers: one for tempo and the other for expression.

Now we just need a game like "Guitar Hero" to go with these technologies and pretty soon we'll have 12 year olds across the globe conducting the Rite of Spring from memory!
