    Grieg - Anitra's Dance - CMB

Grieg composed incidental music for Peer Gynt, a play by the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. Anitra, daughter of a Bedouin chief, performs a dance that has become one of the center pieces of an orchestral suite of the incidental music.

Here I have set the work for wind orchestra, using Finale 2006 and the CMB and GPO libraries.

One of my favorite pieces, and this rendition certainly does it justice! Very nice adaptation.

Very, very well done adaptation of this, Gary!

Perfectly balanced and voiced, with fine clarity to
    the orchestration of it.

    A pleasure!

Gary thanks for stopping in for a listen. I am glad this is one of your favorites to begin with. I agree, the CMB really gave it the sound that I was looking for in the first place.

    David,

Thanks so much for your kind comments. The CMB really did bring out the best of the wind parts I have to agree.

This is a great adaptation Gary.

I listened to both, but I think the winds version wins for me.

    Well done.

Really nice job with this, Gary! You're achieving an impressive level of realism with CMB, and your adaptation is quite sensitively done. I've always liked this piece and also enjoyed the few Ibsen plays I read (literally decades ago!), so it was a treat to listen. Thanks for sharing this!

This is a wonderful piece, full of such charm and grace and a bit of sarcasm for good measure - all captured quite nicely by your CMB rendition.

Not too sure about the triangle on the final note, though. Maybe it is just too loud?

    Re: Grieg - Anitra's Dance - CMB

mMMMm, really good choice for a piece to work on, Gary. I've had a special love for Anitra's dance ever since listening to it over and over as a child - it was on a record of classical selections my parents had.

This sounds super. Grieg surely would approve.

Various frequencies can be exaggerated by the MP3 conversion process and then the random elements of particular playback systems, speakers in particular. So it may not be so in your original master file, but listening to it here, the Triangle was extremely loud in proportion to the rest - not just the final roll, but throughout. It was clanging so loudly I turned the speakers down, but then the orchestra was too soft. It also seemed to not be in the same space - as in, too little reverb?

BUT I've been horrified at the way various frequencies get distorted when I listen to my own things on this computer, --so it could very well be the problem is here at my place. I'm passing it on in case you want to check the Triangle's level in the master.

    Lovely work, thanks, Gary.

    Alan,

Glad that you enjoyed the wind version as much as I do. The CMB really makes it shine.
