    Regarding Catatonia:
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    This article is about the Spanish autonomous community.

    Catalonia (Catalan: Catalunya; Spanish: Cataluña; Aranese Occitan: Catalonha), is an Autonomous Community in the Kingdom of Spain. The Autonomous Community of Catalonia covers an area of 32,114 km² with an official population of 7,134,697 (2006) from which immigrants represent an estimated 12.3% of the total population. It borders France and Andorra to the north, Aragon to the west, Valencia to the south, and the Mediterranean Sea to the east (580 km coastline). Official languages are Catalan, Spanish, and Aranese.
    The capital city is Barcelona. It is divided into four provinces: Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, and Tarragona. Its territory corresponds to most of the historic territory of the former Principality of Catalonia.

    A haunting melody, very nicely rendered.

    This is a sweet carol, very beautiful. It sound almost too sad and melancolique to be for Christmas. Beautiful arrangement too. Personally, I think it would sound even a bit more dreamy with a touch more space. Great piece.

    Gary, this sounds very nice. Boy, it is a somber piece. It seems so sad for a christmas carol. I like it a lot. thanks for posting.

    Thanks for listening, Jay.
    The lyrics don't seem to hint about the character of the music.

    To paraphrase: On this holy night, birds' voices rise in song expressing their happiness. Second verse: Nightingale is first telling the promise of the Night. Third verse: the sparrows and finch add their voices.
    Final verse: the partridge professes his adoration.

    Regardless of the technical issues you continue to struggle
    with, Gary -- some very nice writing in this... quite different
    from so much of what I've heard from you. Is this based on
    a specific Catalonian carol (I know little about their music);
    or original thematic work?

    I love your opening sound.......the piano juxaposed to the strings.....however when you start using your marcato on the strings I think that you need to smooth them out a little more...( like me I too struggle with technical issues so we are in the same boat there)...as well as the section that comes after it..(the entrance of the clarinet(?) and then a little later the horns was a little bit of a surprise for me)......but boy did you do nice work at presenting us with this beaytiful melody..........I am sure if you go back and do a little more to it this will be a stellar piece for you.....You have done 99% of all the hard work already.....do not let this one get a way..

    Hi David,
    This is a traditional carol. In Spanish, it is EL CANT DELS OCELLS.
