Topic: OT: Mini-Rig Recommendations?

    Question OT: Mini-Rig Recommendations?

    I need to put together a portable system...Probably PC-based.(Cubase 4)
    Any recommendations? Specs?
How much RAM can current PC laptops hold and address?
    XP or Vista?
    External HD desirable/necessary for samples?
(I wish I could swing a MacBookPro + Logic 8, but it doesn't look feasible under the current circumstances---unless a comparable PC laptop comes in at close to the same $$$)...

Important: Has anybody used one of those M-Audio (or other) controllers with USB MIDI I/O and everything all in one? Any good? Or is some other combination---separate I/O and controller---preferable?

Any and all anecdotal and/or experiential information is warmly welcomed.

    Thanks in advance!

I wish you could try to swing it! If you can by waiting, then do it! The new macbook pro's are incredible! (up to 4gbRam & 512mb Video card+leopard now) And of course, Logic 8 will be a great choice because all the jampacks and new exs instruments sound so great and blend really well with other libraries.

I'm telling you... If you can swing it... Swing away!

Thanks, Jeremy...Of course I'd rather go Mac, but...

Let's assume that's not in the budget for now...

Anybody using an all-in-on USB MDI I/O and Controller?
