Tempo orchestral waltz - help please

some time ago somebody posted a reply in the listening room about the normal tempo of a waltz played by an orchestra. I think it was Hannes_F, but I am not sure. He suggested a tempo (rhythm) like this:

    huuuuuummm-pa-paaa

as I remember well. Can anybody help me?

That has nothing to do with the tempo itself. You're probably talking about syncopated accompaniment in three-quarter time. In that case the three beats would be: eighth note followed by a dotted quarter note followed by a quarter note. With this pattern there is an early entry of the second beat. Alternatively, you could have a quarter note then an eighth note followed by a dotted quarter note which would result in a syncopated third beat.

Thanks Larry. Sorry about the word tempo, as you said: I meant the syncopation.
