These are scarier than having blue ghosts in your Kontakt Player.

I have listened to first 11 eeeery entries and...

I'll do the other 11 whenever i stop shaking.

Well, since I can only vote for one, I'll list the 4 that I thought were really good. Basically, I just listened to them all and gave them a rating (excluding myself so I don't get a little biased )

    "It's Behind You"
    "Waltzing with Witches"
    "Blood Motel"
    "Skeletons"

Really great job at being scary, and I hope to never have to listen to it again in fear of attracting spooks to my home!

I had to vote for Skeletons. This piece just belongs in a Tim Burton movie based on Halloween. Also it is 100% GPO.

But Blood Motel sounds like it is right out of a Simpson's Halloween Special and deserves a nod.

    Well done to all!!!

Well, as a horror movie composer I must say we have here very good entries.

I sent two entries, which I particulary didnt fell in love with...but I wished to participate this year...so why not?

Most of the compositions have a "Grim Fandango" feel...they would not fit well in a horror movie like "Scream", "Hellraiser" or "Hostel"...but would work in a "Nightmare before christmas" kind of movie...which mixes soft horror but also have a parody feel...

I Liked a lot of Blood Motel...and man...whats tha effect you used??????

So cool...if you could talk about that I would be very happy

    Bets regards!!

It was hard to choose. So many really creepy entries. I wonder how much Garritan Libs were involved. I've heard the strangest noises, which I didn't recognize as belonging to any Garritan Lib.

Re: Vote for the Creepiest Halloween Music Contest (2007)

I still can't get over what a great big collection of spookiness came out of this Halloween contest--brrrrrr!

Replying to the last few posts here - There still seems to be some confusion about what the parameters were for this event:

--Just as with the Challenge contests, the idea was to have pieces be done substantially with Garritan instruments, which is only logical since this is the Garritan Forum.

Here is what Gary said on the original Halloween thread:

"...It is preferred that you use primarily Garritan libraries. And you can add sound effects too..."

Again taking my own piece as an example, the first sound I used is the Wind Machine from GPO - it may not be familiar with everyone, but it's in the Percussion list. The rest of the piece uses the Garritan libraries, and I added a Theremin VST I wanted to layer in for the last half of the song. I also added sound effects of voices.

That, I think, is a good example of what Gary had in mind.

Giving preference to an entry because it's 100% GPO isn't apropos, since Gary invited us to add extra sounds if we wanted. And so to worry about strange sounds which aren't Garritan - this is misunderstanding what the guidelines were.

Pieces that use no Garritan sounds at all - Well, that's true of some of these pieces, and one person freely stepped forward to say it was his newest piece and he just wanted to join in the fun. I think that's fine, but should probably be a factor when people are voting on this.

Hope this clears some things up.

Halloween has been extended this year!--I love it.

Re: Vote for the Creepiest Halloween Music Contest (2007)

You can get a lot of totally unrecognizable sounds out of GPO by abusing those instuments. I can't remember what all i did in the one submitted last year, but it had screeching strings and flutes sounding similar to cutting sheet metal on a bandsaw and other effects, and a sort of a rumbling sound by combining the very bottom of bassoon with wild patterned passages of low harp with piano. It would be hard to say something didn't use GPO if it is odd sounds.

Well all my sounds (except my voice) are registered GPO sounds (creepy old GPO).
