Only for UK users - name needed

In the middle ages there was a TV show for children with a very majestic cat, called Mr.......... . The name had the same impact as Paddington (but that was a bear). My wife and I, we both have that cat's name at the tip of our tongue... but it will not come off that tip. Anybody? It was, we think somewhere in the seventies of the previous century (not sure).

Hi Ray, my wife was a toddler back in the seventies - and fond of cats so there's a good chance she'll come up with the answer. But right now, it's on the tip of her tongue......

Was it anything to do with Hector's House? I think Hector's wife was a cat!

    Or the Pink Panther?

Nope, but thanks. Nice sentence: back in the seventies my wife was a toddler; makes one feel old.
It was always with MR. ..... etc. (as I remember well enough).

Mr Bigglesworth? Not sure of spelling, but that is from a 1990's spoof, Austin Powers - the cat's name is something like Mr. Bigglesworth and since every line, ever scene and every background object in the Austin Powers movie has a source in British movies or TV, I'm sure the name is a take off of the name you are looking for.

Hmm, that's what Philippa came up with - so it gets my vote too. If it's the one that used to have pink and white stripes and started each program with a big yawn - it was definitely Bagpuss!

Never knew that a simple question could lead to such rich discussion.
Still thinking..... I have to wake up my memory banks......(8 bits data transfer).

    A new name: Sylvester.

But still doesn't ring a bell. Maybe I mix up things... we stop this queste (I don't like cats anyhow, I am a dog type).
