    Hello, Gunther!

I am not doing too well, honestly. In September, I moved 1000 miles away from my home to follow a job opportunity for my wife. We used to live in the country in our own house, and now live in a smaller apartment in a noisy crowded city for more than twice the cost.

People talk about all the opportunities presented by city life, but perhaps not so much someone outgrowing their youth that prefers the quiet home-life!

Due to the costs of the city, I have also had to give up my work with Garritan Corp and no longer consult from home, instead going back to work in a corporate office doing non-music software development. Gary and I have talked about me doing some freelancing in my off hours, but a one hour commute twice per day leaves me little time and energy for creative pursuits.

So you can see it is not working out too well in the short term! However, my wife loves her job (working for MIT) and it is a significant step in her career. In the long run it is for the best.

I still try to compose a 2 minute entry for the KVR contest every month, and the tribute Aziraphal refers to (for my five years continuous participation) was very touching! But that is barely all I can manage of music at this point: in fact, most of my equipment is still in boxes, as I do not have as much space to set up the home studio.

Yes, it sounds like a sob story, but I guess it is not so bad: I have my wife and our health is good, and it is not forever. I just hope we can eventually move to a quieter cheaper location!

Anyway, thank you for remembering and asking. I hope all is well for you and the Garritan forum family.

    Welcome back!

And congrats for your courageous move! At least your wife loves her job, while my lady's is driving her closer to nervous breakdown every day - so knowing that it's been worth it can be a great consolation for any painful change.

    Cheers Matt

PS Hope we manage meet in Submissions thread this month I too have 6 hours of spare time a day ... for shower and sleep and optional music (combined)

    Hi Mark,

I commend you for being courageous and making the move for your wife's
career. I trust this will only be a tremporary situation. and that her present job will lead to something even better than your previous home.
