Back from the brink-- a long delayed VSL VI demo

After a frustrating period of sample "burnout," I'm back with a one of my more ambitious mockups-- a performance of Howard Hanson's Symphony #3-- scherzo movement.

All instruments are VSL VI. Reverb is Altiverb.

Your comments are most welcome and greatly appreciated.

Yes, ambitious is the right word.

The mockup is at very, very high level.

The only thing that let me in little doubt is a kind of unnatural "suspension" in the space of the instruments sound.

The convolution give a wonderful ambience but the panning make more a "surround effect" instead of a "listening in fornt" of the orchestra in a concert hall.

But being stimulated by this strange stero effect, is an evidence of the realism of the mockup. Probably nobody care of "sounding fake" arrangements panning...

Congratulation, both the programming and mixing are excellent! Very high quality.

The string sounds in the middle of the piece are really nice. Very effective programming. Being a fellow VSL user I know it's still a challenge to get ultra realistic shape to any string sample and you really managed it. And yes, the tutti section is scarily real.

    Great job!!

p.s. what VSL libs did you use? PLease don't say just Vienna SE or else I have a lot to work on!

Jay, that's more real than a real orchestra. Can you share your Altiverb settings?

A top library (Woods are really good) mastered at high level should gives something like this great mockup.
