    Word of the Week: WOOLGATHERING

    Word of the Week: WOOLGATHERING

etLux was the inspiration of our new word for the week:

    WOOLGATHERING
    Pronunced: \WOOL-gath-(uh)-rin

    Woolgathering means:
    Indulgence in idle daydreaming.
Recently, I was woolgathering while listening to etLux's "A Delectation of Woolgathering" and thought about what an interesting word that is (delectation is also). You can hear A DELECTATION OF WOOLGATHERING For Symphony Orchestra at www.DavidSosnowski.com and forum post about it here.

Woolgathering derives from the literal sense, "gathering fragments of wool."

Recently in the news Madona has outraged animal rights groups for colorful woolgathering by dying her sheep.

With a Scottish husband perhaps she should have tried a tartan motif, maybe a warring clans theme.

Re: Word of the Week: WOOLGATHERING

There once was a shepherd whose blathering
Put all of his sheep in a lathering.
    His comments were lewd,
    But his words misconstrued
By his flock (but he just was woolgathering).
In theory there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice there is.

Very cool word, i use it all the time. I like to say "why so much woolgathering?" and "what in the heck are you going to do with all those fragments?"

I don't see why they are upset, they are probably just jealous.

Once again you're attempting to pull the "wool over our eyes!"

I thought woolgathering had something to do with what I collect in my bellybutton every evening.

I learn something new every day!

In my case, it's more like mossgathering.
