My financial advisor just warned me of a new malady that has been increasingly on the rise for musicians who use sampled libraries and computers. It's called OSLPD and it's a very serious condition. It's short for Obsessive Sample Library Purchase Disorder and the side effects are:
buying more than a few orchestral sample libraries even when one or two is fine
Yeah, I have this. I own:
EWQLSO Silver, Gold and Platinum XP
EWQL Symphonic Choirs
HALion Symphonic Orchestra
MOTU Symphoniv Instrument
Apple Symphonic Jam Pack (twice-have it stand-alone and in Logic 8)
VSL Vienna SE Standard and Expanded
Kirk Hunter Sapphire
SAM Solo Sessions
Kontakt 1, 2, and 3 (including VSL library)
Buying more than one DAW/sequencer because they come with neat plug ins
Yup. Me again.
Logic Express 7, 8
Logic Studio 8
Sonar 3 through to 7
Digital Performer 5.12
then there's also NOTION, Overture and Finale for notation.
Going through a multiplicity of computers to get the best performance
Er, yeah. I currently have:
Mac G5 2.0 ghz DP w. 4 gigs RAM
AMD Athlon X2 with 4 gigs RAM
AMD Athlon 2.4 ghz w. 2 gb RAM
Macbook Core Duo 2 1.83 ghz w. 1 gb RAM
Going through endless interations of keyboard controllers to find the one that best works with the sampled libraries
This is a biggy.
Axiom 25, 49, and 61
Kurzweil SP2X, PC1SE
Yamaha Mo6, and Mo8
and so-on and so-on.
So, does anyone else exhibit these signs? If so, well....welcome to the club!
