    Elegy in Eb Major

For my Music Theory I class, we were given an assignment to compose a peice (any kind of piece, really) for someone in our school was had a car accident. (It was a total accident with no drinking involved or anything).

I just recently finished mine using Finale 2008:

Another fine piece. You have a lot of talent for your age. This is very appropriate music for your description and I am sure Derek would be very happy with this.

    Well Done

Thanks. I tried to base this off my knowledge of music theory and just use what would sound nice. I did this especially in the woodwind chorale after the first half of the piece (after the horn holds out the note). I know nothing about writing for chorales, so I just kinda guessed.

An intriguing evocation of elegiac sensibilities with
    quite interesting harmonic undercurrents, Cransworth.

    Perhaps you might consider advancing this a step further;
taking some of the thematic elements from this piece
and creating an additional, more energetic movement
to follow. It would make a fine bipartite "suite"!

Enjoyed this, especially the chorale writing in the second half that you refer to. Good work with the strings too as the work progresses. Some good build ups in places where you make use of the full orchestra to provide contrast.

I agree with etLux on this. A second movement would indeed provide scope to extend some of themes you have introduced with this.

    Thanks for sharing,

    Regards, Graham

Okay, I'll get working on that. That sounds like a good idea.

Pretty amazing. Early bloomer or what!

    Yes, it does sound incomplete.

    Hi, Cransworth

I'm very impressed with your piece, because it moved me as I listened. When music reaches me like that, how can I not be impressed?

    Matthew:

A very nice melody and nice orchestral accompaniment.
You should have gotten an "A" for this in my opinion.

Good to hear you are studying theory seriously.
