    Cool Perspichecity: Just for fun

Just a little play-around with a new musical mindset. Thanks are due to Dave ("kick me in the head when needed") and Persichetti ("think tension and release"). Think "kid playing with finger paints" on this one... it's a play, an experiment, throwing out my musical preconceptions as much as possible.

    The title comes from:
    • perspicacity: "acuteness of discernment or perception" and
    • Persichetti

    Karen:
Nice intro, now where is the rest of it? Oh, how I wish I had your imagination and creativity. I can just see the little "brats" frolicking. It might be a bit heavy in places, or is it a foreboding that all is not sugar and candy in Never, Never Land. Do I detect a Prokofiev influence?

I see you used the chromatic fingerpaints... lol. Nice work,
Karen; good to hear more harmonic adventure. (A little
less reverb, though, would be good.)

Why not put together several of these and do a set of
    "Preludes for Orchestra"?

What a fun sounding piece, Karen! I love it and love the changing between bowing and pizz. It gives a feel that i would think well suited to accompany animation, but on it own it's a delight to listen to it.

Wow, that is unbelievable, he actually caught him. Lol.

I'm glad he changed his mind about using that knife. Thanks Karen, i'll always remember this one.

What fun and educational this piece would be for young groups. The result makes it well worth the effort, and the piece insists that the musicians work on their accidentals.

Any chance you're going to add a development and reecap?

    Ohhhh~... that's so cool!

I love the use of pizzicato!
string quartet (ˈstriŋ kwȯr-ˈtet) n. a good violinist, a bad violinist, an ex-violinist, and someone who hates violinists, all getting together to complain about composers

Steve, thanks -- um, to be honest, I'm not educated enough in music history and styles to know if there is a Prokofiev influence or not. There might be, as my mom was always listening to classical music, but I didn't learn the composers by name then.... and well, I guess by now I've come to the conclusion that its never all sugar in Never Never Land...

that sounds like fun -- to write a set of short pieces for string orchestra... i like that idea. and may also develop this more too... or take motives from this and make them into pieces of their own, i guess that's like making gravy from drippings or something LOL?
