    Scary horror theme (GPO) [RE-EDIT]

    Hello, everybody!
So... I needed a short scary horror theme... one of those intermezzos you would expect to listen in an old-fashioned radio show, just when the monster is slowly coming out from the foggy and smelly swamp... ^_^

And this time... there's no excess of crash cymbals! :-)

And... this is the link to the video where this piece it's been used: it's towards the end.

    Thank you in advance!

    Hi Daniele,

Too short! -- but, yes, I know that's what was called for...

Great underpinning for the wailing guitar solo, with some really effective brass swells. Why dont you develop this into a full-length piece? The material deserves it!

Definitely Halloween material, Daniele -- but, like
    Danny says... more!

Also, the link above is incomplete so some may have
    difficulty getting to the file.

    Try this:

    Hi, Danny!
    Thank you very much!
Inspiration is a strange thing: sometimes I have ideas that I could develop into hours and hours of music... and sometimes I come out with these little pieces that begin and end in less than a minute... but... never say never!
If I'll have some ideas floating in my mind I won't miss to take this piece somewhere else... a "somewhere else" as much as scary, by the way! ;-)

    Thank you!

Ah, David, you're always so kind!

If I'll come out with something adeguate, I won't miss to develop this theme further!

I'm quite satisfied with it... it's also the first time that I use the GPO organ! It sounds so good!!!
(Well, the whole GPO sounds *so good* to my ears! :-D )

I endlessly thank you for the notice about the link, I didn't realize that it was not including the whole filename! :O

    Me... and my bad habit to use the square brackets in filenames! ^_^;;

    Thank you so much!
    Have a great everything!

    That is very well done.

    Very short, but highly evocative.

    Re: Scary horror theme (GPO)

    Dan,

    Good morning.

This is an excellent bit of radio/film music.

The thing with this type of music, film scores in particular, is that an idea, color, texture or mood only has to go on long enough to support the events unfolding on screen. So, often times, there is not time to develop an idea as much as you would like. You state it, then move on to the next cue.

Dramatic music, be it for picture, stage or radio, is a very different beast than concert music. That was an issue that I struggled with for a very long time before I came to the realization that you have to be a servant to the medium, not your own muse.

The neat thing about your cue here is that you have a small motive that you could use to unify a completed score, but it works just as a little snippet as well. (See, even I'm wanting you to write more, even after writing the above paragraphs!! Oh well! )

Is this for a certain project or just an idea that you had?

    Keep up the fantastic work.

    Have a nice day,
    Jonny

It's just like this, in facts.
And this particular piece makes no exception: it's used in a video I've made, for a section lasting just as much as the piece... that's why it's so short!
Though, sometimes it happens: a small idea for a piece seems perfect by itself, even if short... and to guess how it could go on it's very hard![/quote]

I agree. What matters, when it comes to soundtracks, is that the music may fit what's going on in the screen/scene/stage!

    Hahaha! You're very kind! :-D
Yeah, you're right, there's a mad organ player (he's clearly mad, by the way, and he plays in a ruined castle! xD) who has come out with this crazy, little theme... who knows if he can develop it further?! ;-)
    You know what?
This is the first scary theme ever I've tried... I have the impression that it is quite "cliché", shame on me... so I don't know if I could be able to write something else with the same kind of atmosphere...
Well, I guess that when I'll get a new inspiration of this type I'll know it! ^_^

I have a page in YT, that I fill with videos... some feature my original music with GPO, some feature horrible () improvisations with my guitar... some slides, some animated documentaries about paleonthology (...)...
And, in these weeks YT users are busy telling random things about themselves and tagging other YTers so that they may do the same...

So, the last time I've been tagged I decided to do some vlogging... and because I show my new notebook (on which this lovely piece it's been composed! :-D)... I've suddenly decided to add some humour... "Daniele's style".
I'm going to re-edit this thread, so that to add the link to the video! ^_^

Thank you very much for your kindness!
It's been a great discussion... it's always interesting to discuss about music and what's behind it! :-)
