    Cantique by G. Faure

To all my friends (enemies too) here is my Easter offering. This is a piece written by Gabriel FAure called:

    Cantique de Jean Racine

Though not truly an Easter song, it certainly fits the mood. The original is for SATB and Harp. I wrote a horn part and placed the vocal parts in a string quartet.

    Happy Easter all!

Beautiful, Wrayer! Even through a killer earache that has me pulling out what's left of my hair, this still sounded gorgeous -- and apropos, as you said, for the holiday. Really nice work with the string quartet.

    Back to pulling hair...

    Ray,

Very nice setting of this very versital work. I know it well. I did pickup a few wrong notes, the most noticable being the tenor voice entry at the beginning of the work. And a couple in the harp during the transitions between sections. But excellent choice for the Easter time upon us.

    I enjoyed this.

I have it on a cross over album with a large production but I like the intimacy of your arrangement.

    It's real pretty.

Well, from my score, the notes are right. I have a 1952 choral score, so there may be some descrepencies!

    Glad you stopped by.

    To all:

It certainly is a beautiful work. Thanks for the listen. I plan on re-arranging this for my brass sextet. I will keep you posted.

    I'm a little late for Easter, I guess, Bill; but I'm a
great admirer of Faure and couldn't pass this one
    by without a listen.

Very astute arrangement and adaptation to the
string quartet and horn, my friend... not nearly so
easy to do as one might assume.

I hope you have an opportunity to have this
performed live, Bill -- beautifully done.

    My best,
