posting an attachment or picture

Hi, Can someone enlighten me as to how to include a picture in a post?
What are the rules regarding attachments. Under "posting rules" it says I may not post attachments. What's up with this? I sent an e-mail to the forum and haven't got a reply.
Thanks, John

Hi John,

As far as I know, I don't think anyone can post attachments. Power profile users may have had the ability for a time, but I can't recall ever seeing an attachment on this board.

Best,

Thanks for the reply. What I am interested in is adding a picture to the text of a post. I can't get copy and paste to work, and the little icon for "insert image" doesn't seem to work for me. Can anyone guide me through adding a picture. John

There is a "pop up" that comes up after hitting the "insert image" button in which you enter the URL where the picture is hosted. Maybe your pop-up blocker is blocking this?
In theory there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice there is.

It's not the same as adding a picture to an email. You must have the picture stored as an image file at a location on the internet that you can then access through the <img> tag. If you have your own web site you can upload the picture to it and reference it on the forum. There are also some free hosting sites available where you can store images for posting on to forums. Image Shack comes to mind but I'm sure there are numerous others.

Thanks for the replies. The only thing that is happening when I click on the "insert image" icon is the cursor pops up in the text field. Does anyone have a suggestion how I should go about fixing this? John

Re: posting an attachment or picture

I just tried a different browser and the pop-up appeared with the box to add the URL for the picture file. So it must have been my other browser blocking the pop-up. So does anyone have a recommended site to use to host the pictures file(s)? John

It doesn't work for me either. The way around it is to manually enter the address of your image. If you write it will do exactly the same job that the 'insert image' pop-up does.

I use www.photobucket.com to host my images. It's free, and when you're done uploading an image they provide you with various addresses - one to link straight to the file, one to embed it on a page, etc. If you click on the one that starts [IMG] it automatically copies it to your clipboard - then all you need do is paste that into the text editor here.
