What a journey! Full of surprises, just as one would expect from exploration of such a wierd and wonderful place. My mouth was open and eyes wide along with the traveller experiencing such wonders. Who knows what's round the next corner? Even in the quieter passages, there is an unmistakable undercurrent of tension - latent power ready to surprise at any minute.

David, once again, you nailed it. Great work.

    David,

    What a wonderful work.
Love the patience at the beginning -- never rushing -- presenting the material building anticipation of what is to come. Also, really like the part when the solo violin is playing and high strings emerge -- sort of melting in and out.
Wonderful interaction between solo violin and orchestra. Really like the 'melting' quality of it -- melodies grow out of nothing - like the oboe around 1/4 of the way through (hope I'm getting that right -- oboe which goes to flute)
Also, your use of glissando (some other extended techniques) always "fit" -- didn't seem to just be thrown in to present yourself as a 'modern' composer
Lastly, my favorite part is at about the halfway mark (when the bells are sounding) -- those dark deep strings emerge in a very calm point adding darkness
Can't wait to see the score.
This is my favorite of your pieces that I've heard so far. Will need to listen to it several more times. You must get this performed.
Thanks for posting!! A sincere bravo

p.s. Moved a few months ado -- we're fixing up the place so just got the computer unpacked which is why I haven't been around for a while

David, the sound and poetry artist...

My favorite sound peeks in David's Vienna school style concert of event:
0:36 Gurre Lieder epical like poetry with celestial flute - violin enters 0:41
2:57 Interesting pizzicato with flute in flatterzunge following at 3:19
6:20 prophetic chords in Bernard Herrman style.
15.19 Beautiful lyrical theme introduced by the violin in descending intervals - Great David!
Ends with the meditative theme in descending intervals after 20.09 minutes. The use of cymbals throughout the piece reminds me of Varèse, but used in a more gentle way than Edgar.

Very poetic. Very open, lots of space for each sound to blossom and develop. Hints of chaos every now and then to make sure that I am paying careful attention. Then lush melodies to soothe me. But I am never too soothed because there is always a tension that keeps me from completely letting go. Quite a composition. Thanks for sharing this.

Lost for words, David! Completely absorbing - an absolute treat and some of the finest modern writing I've heard. And to think this has been accomplished with GPO and shared with us here....... 'Thank you' are the best words I can find at the moment.

    Regards, Graham

    David

Lots of push and pull around this singularity. At 20 minutes, I had to listen to parts of it for the last couple of days, until I could find a solid 20 to give it my full attention.

Some of this reminds me of the way I think. Other parts are too structured for my thought patterns but follow evenly around the horizon. Kind of like White, Black holes.

This piece just screams out that it is yours. Your style is written all over and thru it, just waiting to be swallowed up and the information goes to who knows where?

This year the newest and largest Particle accelerator is supposed to go online with the hopes of creating mini Black holes (and of course tons of other things as well). Lots will be learned if they are successful.

Overall, a great addition to your already superb library of works.

    Well done

    Wow,!

Despite your many arrangements, you still manage to surprise. Each new composition seems to contain a uniqueness, yet there are the Sosnowski signature motifs which make it very distinctly stylized. I could recognize your work anywhere.

So many segments were just breath taking!

    Fantastic work!

    Hi David,

I've taken several days to listen to this. It is an amazing work. I am thrilled when I listen to it, the textures, the climaxes the intimacy you capture so well. You must have studied the Polish school of composition (Lutoslawski, Penderecki, et al). I wish you had been my teacher! I am not going to bore you with a step by step analysis of the work, just suffice it to say it goes on my album of best works from the Garritan Forum.

I have a question about technique (how you do what you do) but I don't want to take this public place to ask. May I email you with the question?

As always, your music speaks to the soul.

    David:

It's amazing what you can do with just two instruments playing at one time.
The interchange is always so interesting. Along with that, the interjection of
percussion and other instruments to create mysterious effects is a special
    talent of yours.

Do you do your percussion last or as you write? Sometimes, I get the feeling
that some percussion is added later for better effect; or, for a special effect.

Like the dissonance with the horns after the 6m30s mark. Then, the climbing
strings followed by the thin violin lines, bells, and discrete drum lines laced
with cymbals. Solo string is really great. Has to be the Stradavari.........

You have it placed so well and it sings out above the orchestra. Great job
here, David. Nice vibrato and string "skips."

The timpani engages in the rage. Everyone makes a statement, then the muted trumpet.
Great effect on all this, David. Great use of the piano.

Nice surprises in dynamics. Hey, what am I chronicling all this for? The whole
thing is pure Sosnowski and some of his best. Really good piano employment.
One minute he's down low and immediately, he's way up there........

Love the string above the horns. It comes through very clear. The solo
string comes through so great......just love that. Great solo string in the
    closing section too.

    BRAVO, David......

    David,

Am I allowed to have favorites? With your work, that is? Well, you've probably guessed it already; this is just superb and, of the pieces of yours I've listened to, is my favorite.

I see you are very much in control of your instruments. In this case, you demonstrate your appreciation and understanding for the violin. What control and finesse, David! This must take you a very long time to put together, let alone compose.

After hearing this, I begain to think you should have been hired to write the score for Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey instead of Alex North. But that was written in 1968! I wouldn't want to insult you by suggesting you were around back then! Hehehe

I love the sparse use of the flute. It's perfect! More than anything, I adore the ending. What a beautiful resolution to such an exciting musical journey. I hear character, mood, story, conversation, conflict and conclusion. A masterpiece!
Thanks so much for this wonderful work, David.

    Best wishes,
    Paul
