This work does grow on you and there is an uncanny "feel" to it.
    I wish I could pin that down. It's a byproduct of the math;
but I'm not quite sure why.

The math and creative process behind it is fascinating. It certainly is "out there" as Trent mentioned (way beyond Uranus and Neptune). Kuiper's Trousers is tailor-made for the Steinway which does well with modern material.
My knee-jerk reaction is, It's a Steinway, so of course it does!
But experience with the new Steinway is proving over and over
again that is shares the universality, flexibility, and versatility
of the real Steinway it so well emulates.

It is unfortunate poor Pluto was relegated to the Kaiser Belt after being demoted from a planet. This music is a kind reminder as to what will happen to planets if the trousers don't quite fit.

Thanks for posting it. I really enjoyed it.

    Gary
Pleased you enjoyed it, my friend! And thanks for stopping
by for a listen to this peculiar child of mine.

    Thanks for listening, klassical!

I agree that keeping an open mind allows things to
fall in sometimes... so, yes, experimenting is well
    worthwhile.

As for our fellows, here, I have their personal
assurance, each and every one, that not once
have they ever tarred and feathered anyone.

    Post away!

Abstruse, perhaps, but certainly not obtuse, Ron... lol!

And, actually, no: "storm" would, within the premises of
this paradigm, constitute a non sequitur.

Properly, the correct inference would be that Jan Hendrik
    Oort requires an umbrella.

    David:

There are two things that I'm going to say:

    1. Very well rendered as is all of your music. BRAVO.....

    2. This "exercise" is an outstanding example of the music
that "ACADEMICIANS" write today. Now, you can understand
why I want you to teach..............lol

    (Really good, David)

Great stuff David! It only took a few seconds for me to 'get into' this - and once under the spell, I wouldn't have minded if this had repeated a few times. This piece helped capture the late and lonely nights I used to spend at the eyepiece as a comet observer trying to catch the first glimpses of a faint comet making its way into the inner solar system. The chimes, reminding me that it was 3 in the morning, and the other hypnotic sounds that could either distract or focus attention, all spoke to me in this.

The Steinway sounds very good and is well suited to this musical environment.

    More please! Regards, Graham

Cool Re: KUIPER'S TROUSERS - Garritan Steinway & Mixed Ensemble (Sosnowski)

    Exciting David,

I'm sure David Lynch would get interested, if he heard this!

I've seen several of his movies, and they all have very special music and sound effects, carefully chosen by him.

Well! You are diving in deep waters...

I think you will catch the big fish!
    quote by Lynch:

"Ideas are like fish. If you want to catch little fish, you can stay in the shallow water. But if you want to catch the big fish, you've got to go deeper.
Down deep, the fish are more powerful and more pure. They're huge and abstract. And they're very beautiful."

I love that quote from David Lynch, Fredrik!

Whether or not these are "deep waters" I cannot
    say, though.

And if they are, one wonders just what sort of
    fish this is!

    Hi Graham,

Interesting to me that you were a comet hunter, Graham.
I've spent so many nights pondering the sky, myself.

It has surprised me a great deal that this curious piece
has brought many positive reactions. This is causing me
pause to reconsider my less-than-glowing opinion of
    algorithmic work like this.

Perhaps it's true that, in the hands of legitimate writers,
the essence of compositional thought in some way
transcends the artificiality of mathematical constraints.

The Steinway sounds very good and is well suited to this musical environment.
As if everyone can't already tell -- I'm just plain in love
with that Steinway. Everything I ask of it, it does for
me; and so well and truly I would wager that it frequently
fools even the most seasoned ear.

    More please! Regards, Graham
I may well do a few more of these!

Thank you for the listen and the kind comments, my friend.

    Hi Danny,

Thanks for taking some time with this one.

I'll be darned if I could explain that; though you're
the third person who's said so.

You've quite definitely demonstrated the versatility of the Steinway with your usual aplomb while still nudging us to take a listen well past the "norm".
Thanks, Danny. The Steinway seems to adapt happily
    to just about any climes.

I think it's healthy, maybe essential, for all of us, including
me, to step outside our musical "comfort zones" regularly.

I really wasn't at all serious in making this piece; but it's
    teaching me some unexpected lessons.

Due to my somewhat limited intellectual elasticity, it can difficult to stretch my brain around music like this, so I just kicked back and completely enjoyed its quirkiness; and I dug it! Especially after reading your explanation of your process of achieving this particualr work using algorithmic stochastic minimalism (ASM), though, it became all too obvious to me that -- if I ever wanted to take a stab at this myself -- I'd have to invent some type of junior varsity sub-category... maybe "stunningly pea-brained algorithmic stochastic minimalism" (SPASM).
    ROFL! I love it. SPASM.

Seriously, not much to it, though -- a little basic
    math is all.

    Sooo... is the zipper next???
No, no no. Logically, the next installment would be
either Kuiper's Yugo or Kuiper's Casket... which,
come to think of it, might be one and the same.

As you so often flatteringly and graciously close your responses to others, let me say...

    With deep admiration ,

    Danny
Many thanks, Danny! Alas, my highschool algebra
teacher deserves much of the credit... lol.

    Always my best,

Thanks, Jack! Generous, as always -- but I have a
hard time accepting one of those coveted Bravo's
    for this one!

You know, Jack, I'll go toe-to-toe on the mechanics
of theory and composition with any "academician", any
    time, any place.

But the more you take the human out of the picture in
    the creation of music, the more bogus it sounds to me;
and that's been a strong trend amongst the Ivory
    Tower boys.

Still, I think we really need the fringe elements and
the experimentalists. Their work, per se, may not have
great intrinsic merit; but the possibilities that they
    expose certainly do.

As far as teaching -- me? -- you serious? You want
a whole generation of otherwise perfectly good
    writers brought to ruin... rofl?

    (Really good, David)

    Jack
Thanks again for listening, Jack; and for your very
    enthusiastic reception of this.

    All my best,

    David
