    Yet another notebook thread

    Howdy,

I'm getting me a notebook finally, and I was thinking about a HP 8710 t8300.

The specs are here (Slovenian page but the tech data should be pretty obvious) - except I'll prolly go for 4G's of Ram

Does somebody have any bad experiences with HP's or should I just bite the proverbial bullet?

    Cheers Matt

    Re: Yet another notebook thread

Hello, The HP has the specs to be able to do a lot of audio work, but my experience is that there is a lot of HP and Microsoft bloat ware onboard that would have to be gotten rid of in order to have a lean, mean music machine. There are many sites that you can search that give rundowns of all the necessary tweaks you should do to maximize a computer for audio.

You didn't mention if you would be using it exclusively as a DAW, or if it would be an all around mobile unit. That would make a big difference.

If you haven't considered a computer from companies that are building them pre-set up for audio production, I would recommend looking into some before you pull the trigger on a purchase. Companies like Rain Recording and Music XPC are selling laptops that are super-powerful for audio, tweaked to really work with all the sequencer programs, samplers, etc. With a weak dollar, it might be a good time to go for it.
    Best of luck, John

    Thanks John,

it'll be an "all around mobile unit" with slight priority on audio side

Hi, In that case, the HP is as good as any of them. You could probably benefit from following a guide to tweaking the Operating System for audio.
One site that offers tweaks is here:

Having spent weeks trying out just about every tweak out there these guys have narrowed the list down to the essential few.
