    "The Trumpet" playing great "pp"

    Hi friends,

I am experimenting with this great instrument and today I got this result:

To my ears it sounds sooo sweet!

    What do you think?

....smile. So what do you think?

Please note: To play this instrument right you have to know 10 CC and 24 keyswitches!

I just do my driving licence for this trumpet.

Oh yes, it makes so lot of fun!!!

    Yes indeed, it does!!!!

    Nice mellow demo Günther!

May be I will make a little demo with typical John Williams phrases in the future. That's the style many people ask for.

Hmmmm....not so sure about this one.

No offense, but I think this is an example of what The Trumpet can't do. It really is exposing it, and this may not be a style it is best suited for?

The attacks sound way to harsh for this style. The sustained notes are very stagnant and lifeless. But it would be hard to pull this off with any Virtual Instrument, me thinks.

Thanks for posting though. It is neat to hear all of the demos people are doing with this instrument.

    Dubaifox,

I conversely think that this piece actually shows what The Trumpet can do.

Like a real instrument, it may get dull and lifeless, depending on player’s technique.

I actually believe this was a very smart trick by Gunther , which will be followed by the “good player” example.

I think that the trumpet sounds bit loud in the mix to begin with... This is what might feel slightly off! Because the title mentions "pp" and it doesn't feel like that at all, volume wise... :-/

But I still find that the quality of the sound is great and think that it is, yet, another example of the trumpet. In the end it's better to have tons of examples and demos to show off what can be done, rather than a few made by super duper professionals who are magicians by profession or something!

Thanks Gunther for sharing this... (I love the subtle differences in vibrato in the sustained notes! additional points to that!)

Good point Nikolas. That is partly what I am hearing too.

I think it's played (er, programmed) well. Gunther did a wonderful job with phrasing and expression. Tonally, there's something a little bit off from a trumpet playing that soft. It sounds closer to a flugel or something I can't quite put my finger on. Perhaps a little EQ would do the fix.

But like I said before, it's not bad at all

I believe that few trumpet players are restrained enough to play a whole piece in such low velocity. Therefore it might sound unnatural to some of you.
