    Smile Ballad For Alto Sax

    UPDATE!!! Saturday. June 14.
    More structured; not as long.

A basic change of style for me.
This is an Alto solo with piano in a free, Jazz style.

Nice ballad! The piano seems a bit minimal at times though. Could the chords maybe be played as arpeggios to loosen it up a bit? Thanks for sharing this, enjoyed the sax! John

    Thanks for listening, John.
This is a first step in shaping the song into a sax quartet. In attempting to stay out of the way of the soloist.
I also am still considering broken chords to give the solo more of a life.

I dunno, Gary... I think I kind of like this as is, with its
straightforwardness, simplicity, and lack of clutter --
there's an appealing clarity of thought to it.

Hi - I'm back! Months of too many contracts which means no free time- overtime etc.

I must admit my first reaction before listening was... oh no, a sampled sax. After biting the bullet and feeling bad about not being more active, I was pleasantly surprised by the composition. Very interesting and good writing!! Well done! Love to hear this with a real player of course. A great listen despite the samples. The best sax sample I have ever come across (and I've heard many) yet was "dusty alto sax on the M1 Korg synth (the extended version) Most of the better Korg hardware synths are now available as virtual instruments.

Anyway, we expect more of the same in future!

    Thanks for listening, Del.
I think it's probably best if samplers are not quite as good as real players, but this sound is so much better than the FINALE sound of ten years ago.
