Which Home studio monitor speakers ???

    Hi,

i'm in the process of purchasing a new pair of home studio monitor speakers for my new PC rig, i'm a solo artist not a band so my needs are basic. I'm trying to decide between the M-Audio-studiophile AV-40 monitor speakers, or Behringers MS-40 monitor speakers, but before deciding on either option could anyone comment on these products???

I don't have any experience with the Behringers, but I own the AV-40s and I have been very pleased with them.
If you want really booming bass, then these are probably not going to be the best option for you.
But if you are doing more precision mixing (specifically with orchestral instruments in a classical/filmscore style) then these are probably going to be a pretty good choice.
Note: $150 monitors are not $500 monitors. Although it is wise to shop around, to an extent you are going to get what you pay for.

I like the sound quality, and the build quality is very good. Very sturdy and heavy.
I know, If you are working with sound, good looks in the equipment department are irrelevant, but these little monitors please the eye as well as the ear.

Although they are slightly more expensive than what you were originally looking at, I have some friends with the Rokit 5s, and for what they cost are an extremely good value.

I believe they just got discontinued, but I'm sure your local guitar center still has them at $99 each.

When I wanted monitors my budget was $300 for the pair. I auditioned the 5" Behringers, Mackies and KRK's. The Behringers were very bright to my ears, and the Mackies very bassy. The KRK's were just right, and GC had just started selling them for $100 each. I've been very happy with them since.
