    Christmas

I saw a comment a few days ago about submitting material for the 2008 Christmas CD. Here's a little piece (very short) that I just wrote as an introduction to the movie "Yesterday's Hello," set on Christmas Eve. I used snippits of "Joy to the World," "Silent Night" and "Good King Wenceslas" as well as original material to create a mood under the 60 second opening with a long tone on the violin that overlays onto a sound bite in the first scene.

    Tom:
Excellent! A very skillful musical montage that really sets the tone and mood. Ho! Ho!

Thank you so very much, Steve. With only 60 seconds it is a little tough to decide what will work.

    Tom

Being a sucker for strings like I am, I love the opening and ending.

This is a nice little potpourri of Christmas tunes. Short and sweet and quick to the point.

    Well done

    Ron,

I am very grateful that you found it pleasing. The tonal credit, of course, goes to GPO. Had Gary not provided a string sampler that I and so many others could afford, this little piece would probably never have happened.

Christmas in July... a well put together montage, Tom!

Perhaps you'd consider expanding this further? I know
the initial intent was as a leader; but it would serve
quite handsomely as the opening of a more formal piece.

    My best,

    David,
Thank you for the encouraging words. I will seriously consider the idea. I will admit, however, that I have no concept of a form. Perhaps just a "fantasy" or orchestral prelude. I sure wish the long anticipated Garritan choir was available. I have a choral sampler, but I believe it would be inappropriate to use in this venue.

If I am to consider extending it, I must get the precepts of the film for which it was written out of my head so as to allow the music to take a more natural continuance of musical thought.

Nicely done, Tom! I will add my vote for expanding this out into a full-length work. You have some beautiful music to build on here.
