Helping People with Disabilities Play Music with Software Instruments II

From time to time I've written about various projects and concerts the Drake School has been doing.

Drake Music Scotland utilized sample libraries and music technology to enable people with disabilities to play and compose music independently. The Drake Music Project Scotland based in Edinburgh, Scotland provides such opportunities and resources to support their nation’s disabled community in realizing the same musical aspirations as their non-disabled peers.

Recently there was a concert called "Moving Music" featuring a new work by composer Howard Moody for an ensemble comprising musicians from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and children with disabilities.

The children were using Soundbeams, switches and keyboards to play sounds from the Personal Orchestra library. You can watch the "Moving Music" concert online on the news page of the Drake website: http://www.drakemusicscotland.org

This is the best use of sampling technology I can think of.

You can find out more about the Drake Music Project and their pioneering work at www.drakemusicscotland.org.

    All the best,

    Gary Garritan

PS: Here is a previous post about the Drake School and also a post about a concert they did.

It is so wonderful to see people of any age happy with
what they are doing. Technology has given hope and
a strong set of musical tools for disabled folks. It is
gratifying to see the satisfaction that all of these players
achieve after working with their individual instruments.

Must make you feel so worthwhile, Gary.......
