"Sketch For Strings In F minor"

This is my freshly-composed "Sketch For Strings In F minor".

My "String Quintet In F minor" is the same composition as above except that I wrote it for two violins and one each viola, cello and bass.

    Both are all-GPO.

    Hi Larry,

I enjoyed both versions, but the full string section captured more of the drama for me than the small ensemble; I think the rhythmically frenetic nature of the piece really "popped" with all those strings -- I easily mentally pictured all those bows frantically agitating in sync with each other.

It's still dark and rainy here today (remnants of Dolly), and this piece fit the mood just perfectly -- I just sat back, closed my eyes, and soaked it in. Expertly done and highly creative as usual, Larry; and your rendering skills have become top-notch as well. Another great piece from a highly-skilled composer!

I agree that the full string version captures the active quality better. This is very nice writing, Larry! It's odd, and I can't explain this, but this piece seems to cry out "f minor" - I don't have perfect pitch, but that key would have been my guess. Perhaps it is that the emotional quality is similar to other f minor pieces...? Whatever, it is a very effective work, and quite rendered, too.

Larry, your writing here is cool! You did so many great composing in the past!

I would like to listen to some pieces from you played by a real orchestra!

    Thanks my friend for sharing!

    All the best,
Thanks for your message, Mr. Ron. My intent, from the beginning, was to write it in F minor. In my mind, it felt F minorish to me also.

    Thank you for listening.

While I do like the quintet, Larry, this material seems
to reach out for the greater depth and presence of
the full strings... so my vote is cast for the latter.

    Much enjoyed!
