    Tascam GigaStudio is discontinued

    Long live ARIA!

Tascam has chosen to cease development and support of its popular GigaStudio sampler and product line, including GigaPulse, GigaViolin, and Giga VI, breaking a widely-used product and various other products based on it.

MusicRadar has the story: Tascam axes GigaStudio
and Film Music Magazine’s Peter Alexander broke the news first:
Tascam Ceases Giga Development as of July 21; Sales And Support End December 31
Tascam has made no official statement, but the report has been confirmed in a message thread by Tascam’s Marketing Manager, and the product has been removed to the discontinued section.

As a fan of open samplers, this is sad news for the sample world.

    Hi Wheat!

I am amazed it lasted as long as it did, considering how pitiful they treated their customers. I have been a customer of TEAC/Tascam for 40 years, but GS3 is my last purchase from them.

    TEAC A350,
    TEAC A1200

    TEAC 3300S

    Gigastudio....

I still have GS3 and use it.
While it is not a program for sissies,
it is not surprising it is now discontinued.

I was a GigaStudio user from the first version. Purchased GigaStudio 3 but had nothing but registration problems. It would lose the registration info every other week. Then Tascam would give me a hard time when trying to get it registered complaining that I'd installed it too many times. It was only installed on 1 machine! I told them that their registration process was broken and many others were having the same problems. After the 3rd time this happened, I just quit using it.

My experience as well . . . with both Ensemble and Orchestra. I've abandoned the computer Orchestra is "installed" on . . . it sits behind me, staring blankly at the back of my head. I also spent an inordinate (and unwarranted) amount of time searching for an affordable GSIF card to install in that machine because the core features aren't available without kernel level commands.

Perhaps someone in tech support will decide, just before they give everyone the axe, to do the right thing by all abandoned users--which is what Native Instrument promises should they fall by the wayside.

    Re: Tascam GigaStudio is discontinued

I am sorry to see gigastudio go. It was my first sampler and I continue to use it with Garritan Orchestral Strings (my first big sample purchase) to fill out the string section of things I write. These days I use GVI (Gigastudio Virtual Instrument) in Sonar and have not had difficulty using this setup along with GPO.

I was always sorry to see such a promising instrument "misused" (if you will) by Tascam.

I was never a "power user" of Gigastudio but I can say that I never had the problems with it that others seemed to have.

    Re: Tascam GigaStudio is discontinued

As the first independent Giga developer (along with Larry Seyer), I was saddened to hear the news last week.

I started my sampling career with Giga. Without Giga many of us would not be here. The innovations the Giga team have brought to the industry were revolutionary.

They have left their mark upon music forever.

I wish the development team well in their future projects.

    Dear Gary:

I was waiting for you to weigh in on this one. I know Giga was very important to your career. You stand on the shoulders of giants.
