Legendary Keyboards (and the songs they made famous)

Saw this on Mental Floss and Digg about keyboards from the 60s, 70s, 80s, that were known for signature sounds. The Mellotron, the Hammond Organ, The Minimoog, The Synclaviar, ands the Fender Rhodes. In the blog there are links to excerpts from songs that made these instrument famous (e.g. Strawberry Fields using the Mellotron, etc).

    Here is the link: http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/17138

I wonder what instruments today will be written about in the future.

    I would add...

    Clavinet (re Stevie Wonder)
Wurlitzer Electric Piano (re Ray Charles)
Yamaha DX7 (re practically every band in the 80s)

    ...and for grins...

The Farfisa Compact (where would Night on Fire be without it?)

I wonder what instruments today will be written about in the future.
I doubt there will be much research here. I think people are returning to vintage instruments for a) nostalgia and b) sampling makes it affordable. Todays electronics no longer demand rotating discs as a sound creation method, so B3s and Optigans are a thing of the past and nothing like them will be recreated. However, they WILL be emulated and still be used for that certain "sound".
R&D today is trying to perfect emulation, such as the mechanical sound of a Leslie speaker. Would something like that be built today? Not on your life. The motors, the cabinet, the tube amps. Beautiful as they were, nothing like that will be created from scratch today. Sad, but true.
