I'm (slowly) adding a documentary about the making of the movie.
Here it comes the link to Part 1:

    [/ August 20, 2008 - EDIT]

    Hello, everybody!
It's been a long time... many projects come and go... some begin and then stop, die or just sleep waiting... many others come at the windows and the door of your heart and mind...

A chain of happenings leaded me to bring back an old song of mine, "The gold of Captain Rich", written back in the summer 2004... and to plan a music video for it that slowly became a short-movie (too much good footage that couldn't be reduced/sacrificed too much)!

Scripting, filming, acting, singing, composing & scoring, audio editing (the soundscapes are all virtual, built from zero with many good samples)... everything done by me!

Apart from the backing track for the song (written in Modplug Tracker), everything else has been scored with my faithful GPO!
This is the first time that I've tried to write a score for some of a movie's scenes... a challengin, beautiful experience, indeed!

So, these are the links to the stereo versions of the trailer and of the two chapters:

    Trailer:
    http://www.vimeo.com/1515366

    Chapter I: Found and Lost
    http://www.vimeo.com/1515426

Chapter II: The Race of the Fools
    http://www.vimeo.com/1516176

    Notice:
The Vimeo videos won't automatically play: it'll take to click on the big, white triangle on the left-bottom corner!
It may take a little bit to load the videos... hopily, it will be worthy of the little wait! ^_^

    Tracklist, in order of appearance:

    Trailer:
    1) The Cannons Dance

    Chapter I:

    1) Captain Rich's cabin Theme
    2) Walzer for a Mariner and his Spouse - Music Box version
    3) The Cannons Dance
    4) A Pirate in Irons
    5) Approaching the Cave
    6) Where's your Treasure?

    Chapter II:

    1) Tavern's Theme
    2) Song
    3) When our Sails are Blown
    4) When our Sails are Blown (25% faster) <- played faster by GPO!
    5) When our Sails are Blown (56% faster) <- played faster by GPO!
    6) Walzer for a Mariner and his Spouse

Thank you in advance for your kind attention!
    It's great to be back!

I'm so sorry about it... I've just checked the links and, at least for me, they fully work.
I cordially invite you to try again, maybe after having (cautionally) deleted all the temporaries in your browser's cache.

    I apologize for the inconvenience!

    Daniele,

I have only begun viewing these amazing clips. What wonderful work you have done. When I have some time to myself I will sit down and view and listen to the entire work. Incidentally, are you the same Danielle that posted the GPO of Fantasia on Theme of Thomas Tallis (Ralph Vaugn Williams) a couple of years back? If so, let me say that you were my inspiration to get involved with GPO. Magnificent work!!!

That "wonderful" is a great beginning! :-D

    Daniele:

Absolutely marvelous videos and your effects and music really
bring out the message of the cinema.

I think you have a talent for writing to picture. Thoroughly
enjoyed the listen and the video.

    Thank you so much, Jack!
When I was making it... when I was making the cave and the Captain's cabin in my livingroom, with the help of some rock paper and some candles, I used to say myself - after all, cinema is this: an illusion! It doesn't matter how it's obtained... what matters the most is that the illusion may be realistic for who's watching! -
Yes, the audio editing was the longest part... but it helps, a lot!

Scores for cinema have always been my main contact with music for orchestra... I guess that's why I often come out with that kind of compositions!

    Thank you again! ^_^

Daniele, my friend, it is wonderful to have you back with
    us once again.

    And what a show!

Daniele, I am greatly impressed with this work -- and I do
have some idea how much work it is. I have watched all
three with pleasure and with interest.

Here, on cable, we have "The History Channel"; and they
sometimes present historical dramatizations similar to this.
Very seriously, I think you should send them some samples
    of your work.

You have real talent as a film maker. This was engaging,
worthwhile, something I would enjoy watching on television.
Plus, so much of the scoring of this is superbly done,
as well. I can just imagine what you could do if you had
a real budget and resources with which to work -- it's truly
remarkable what you have accomplished, here, working
all on your own with, I would guess, a very modest
    expense account!

I'm decidedly a Bergamini fan, Dan. Stay with it. You're
    definitely going places...

    With admiration,

    David

To be back here is wonderful for me as well, David: it's wonderful and exciting, each single time I humbly propose to the kind attention of you all my strange, crazy efforts! xD :-)

And me I'm greatly rewarded by your words, my friend!
By the way, when anyone produces some kind of artistic expression has the impression that it could even be something good... but to read it, written black on white by other human beings... or to hear it, as well, is a great, satisfying sensation... I mean, that impression was not just in my head!!! :-DDD
Two months and a week (or such) of work, man: mostly spent on the editing of the soundscapes, on all those different stereo pannings according to the scene... ^_^
But it's been worthy the effort, I think... well, it seems just like this! :-D

I sometimes see historical documentaries that seem conceived to be a crossing between documentary and fiction... for to make them more interesting!
The most amazing thing is that till three months ago I never tried to direct anything: I mean, just the usual, simple video editing for YouTube videos... but this is my first short-movie ever!
More and more people advice me to try send samples of this work to contests... directly to the "History Channel"?!?!? :O
...I will seriously think about! :-)
What an amazingly kind thing you've said!!!

Grazie mille!!! [It's "thank you very much" in Italian]

I was (and I still am) just curious to read some opinions about the score as well... because it's my first time composing expressively for a movie!
That "superbly" is highly rewarding! :-D

We had almost everything, here at home: my mom and my grandmom have supplied the different objects/jewels... everything, apart from the forest scenes, has been filmed in my living room! :-D
The only thing we had to buy were the fake (chocolate!) gold coins used in some scenes: so, if we don't consider all the time spent on it... it basically is a zero-budget movie! ^_^
Oh, if only I had a huge budget in my hands! MUHAHAHAHA!
*he begins to crazily laugh: two giant men in white drag him away* xD

Well, I can definitely say that I'm Sosnowski fan, David: let's talk about that marvellous improvisation on piano of yours... it's breath-taking! :O
Oh, I'll go on experimenting... you know, it's just in my nature, in my way to be, to come up with always new ideas, self-challenges and experimentations! ;-)

    :-D

    P.S.
    Two things.
First of all, I will publish, always in YT, a two episodes documentary with the making of of this movie! Not too soon... because, after those two months, for a little while I don't even want to hear the words "Windows Movie Maker" or "editing" or such, haha! xD ;-)
In second place... be prepared... I'm planning a follow-up... this is not the last time we enter that cave and that tavern, I do believe... ;-DDD
