    Concerned by Evolve license agreement

"Use of unmodified Samples appearing in isolation such as, but not limited to, in video game
soundtracks, gaming machines, and/or toys (where they may appear in isolation or as sound
effects) is not permitted without first obtaining a separate written license (which may be issued at
    the sole discretion of Owner).

Loops (continuous repeating compositions that contain only a combination of modified Samples)
must be used in a musical context with at least two other instruments or loops that contribute
significantly to the composition. The Loop may be an element, but not the entire composition. "

Hmm, that's tricky. I'd rather not have to think that if I bring in loop or sound for a couple of bars before building with other elements, I'm actually braking the law.

    Thoughts anyone?

The first part doesn't bother me, but that second part IS sketchy territory ... and reminds me that I need to read these license agreements more often.

I get that they don't want an isolated loop being sold by Joe EndUser as his own composition, but there's an awful lot of gray area there that could put scoring guys in a weird place. Maybe the Heavyocity guys can weigh in?

Re: Concerned by Evolve license agreement

    Hey Guys,

Joel, the license doesn't restrict you from using the loops independently in a composition as long as the piece has more foundation than the isolated loop elements. The intro you describe would be totally fine.

Should a question arise, a simple email will remedy the situation swiftly. We're really lenient with IP creative questions.

Feel free to PM me if I can answer anything more specific, Joel.

    Cheers,

    Dave

Thanks. That's still some scary wording. Your lawyer's prowess could frighten some away.

Re: Concerned by Evolve license agreement

    Hello gentlemen,

I'm not sure if you are aware of this but I believe many of the other collections you may own to compose your work have a similar agreement in place, this is somewhat common practice. It's intent is to stop people from holding down 1 or 2 loops with nothing else and selling the raw elements as "finished compositions" to music licensing companies. Hope this helps.

    thanks
