Lightbulb "Fantasia for Clarinet and Harpsichord" - (Short, Quick Duet)

    Hey,

Here's something unusual for me to write... Not my style, but I decided to experiment, and it didn't come out bad. It's quite unorganized, no form whatsoever, so I think it's a Fantasia...? Erhm, tell me if I'm wrong. I'm not that good with those kinds of.. terms...

It's my first time with a harpsichord, so bear with me here.

    Fantasia for Clarinet and Harpsichord

EDIT: Look for the revision in a post below. Added expression.

    GPO. Written in Sibelius.

Anything I should change or improve?
string quartet (ˈstriŋ kwȯr-ˈtet) n. a good violinist, a bad violinist, an ex-violinist, and someone who hates violinists, all getting together to complain about composers

    Daniel,

Excellent set of contrasting ideas. More dramatic shifts in volume and tempo will lend more to the clarinet idiom. True - Fantasia or Fantasy is the correct nomenclature. Looking forward to hearing this to it's the end.

Thanks for posting and best wishes,

    Nicely done, Daniel!

With John, I'd suggest giving a little more drama and
expression to the clarinet... to which the lines are
    already inherently suited.

Perhaps you might do a small suite of these?

    My best,

Thanks! Good idea... I'll try that and post my edits soon. I didn't mess with dynamics at all actually. >.< I'll work with that.

A small suite sounds like a great ideaaa. I'll try to do that.

I agree with all that was said above.

It always is fun to get outside of the comfort zone and do something different.

    Well done

This is a very nice duet. It has a renaissance feel to it. I like the style and direction of the piece. I do wish (as a semi-pro clarinetist) to hear a little more clarinet virtuosity in this other than doubling the harpsichord melody. (Please, this is just a personal preference.) My overall impression is that I too would definitely like to hear more movements in suite form.

Congratulations on a very listenable and enjoyable duet, Daniel. I do like it and want to hear more!

I'm just happy to hear a harpsichord in the listening room. Grrrrrreat!

This might be cool to take after Vaughan Williams. At least I think it was Vaughan Williams? Yeah, Six Studies in English Folk Song by Williams.

    ALRIGHTY.

I finally got around to revisiting and revising this!!

Here's my attempt to add more expression. >.< I added actual varying dynamics, added some accents and varied the staccatos by throwing in some staccatissimos. There's a few other things I changed you may notice, which hopefully adds a bit more drama.

    Is it better at all?
