Need a chord for this Build!!! I've tried everything

Ok, a Wind Band song I'm writing for my goup. Mr professor wants something slow and melodic, that builds to this beautiful scene.

Talking Re: Need a chord for this Build!!! I've tried everything

Sounds great so far! Here's what I would do:

    * I would do a relieving transition from the brassy build-up to a very rich string passage. A direct change from which the strings bulge up with some new material. Simular to that in the Romeo & Juliet overture by tjajkovskij.

    * or.., you could just go bananas and let it all explode into a mist of brasstastic madness! Bring forth the ff horns!

But that's just my humle thoughts
    Best of luck!

    Tuba

I think what I would do is get back to the beginning. Allow the brass to calm down a bit and mellow into the calmness.

On the bells, why does the second one go dead so fast? Was that on purpose? It just seems to me that it should ring a bit like the first one.

    great beginning

What do you mean rolifer? I'm sure I'm confused. It has been my goal in this piece to have awkward feelings. Like at the beginning, repeating the a section 3 times instead of 4, and in this updated version, making the build recur the scale 1 and a half times.

After a few hours of sleep, I woke up and knew exactly what chord went there. A wonder what sleep does for creativity.

Just a thought, I tried the suggestion about returning to the beginning, so I removed the bassoon and joined the start to the end, sounded fine.

By the way, I really like this piece.

I see what you're saying buckhead, but I'm just not ready to end this one yet. Maybe I could develop the melody more. I'm really not sure whats going to happen, I really want to spend more time letting what's now soak in to really figure out what musically comes next.

i dont like the bassoon either. I was just trying something I heard. In the next cut, it probably wont be there.

I went with your option B on this one. Im very much a tuba player. So brass is my favorite and obvious choice.

Beautiful job on this so far, Ben... very strong
writing in it... highly impactful, firmly holds
the listener with that very well directed build-up.

This is great material -- and though I'd loan you
a chord if I had one to spare, I think you're managing
    quite superbly on your own!

    My best,

I have the same opinion as etLux here as well. You are doing fine. The texture and build are good. The only suggestion I would give you is to step back from the piece, look at all the material used so far and pull from it to get that next inspiration and direction. You have plenty of ideas in the piece now.

I do have a comment for etlux, though... (to paraphrase a very old popular tune from the 1930's)
