    Mendelssohn With GPO Strings

    Hi everyone,

I haven't posted any music for such a long time. I have been struggling with a few pieces the last few months and they're just not getting on very well. So, I decided to do what I always do when I feel uninspired with my own music: arrange something beautiful.

This time I chose a little piano piece by Mendelssohn. It is from his «Sieben Characterstücke» Op. 7. This set of seven piano pieces were first published in 1828 and it contains a wide variety of styles. I chose the first one, which is an Andante marked «Sanft, mit Empfindung», and arranged it for a small string orchestra and solo violon.

For me, it is an extremely beautiful little piece and I hope that you would enjoy the arrangement.

You can download the Mp3 here.

    Thank you for listening.
    Kind Regards

    Very enjoyable LouisD.........

This piece has a lot character and when arranged for
    strings sounds almost Baroque.

I hope that you find some melodic and harmonic inspiration
very soon so that you can get back to producing some
fine music. I know that "writer's block" can be annoying at
times, but it passes if you just relax and let it take its course.

    BRAVO, LouisD

    Louis,

    A lovely arrangement!

You did choose well the instruments and succeeded in achieving a beautiful, soothing sound which is very enjoyable and relaxing.

A composition with strings always moves me... Well done!

I hope that now you will be able to return to your own composition.

    We will wait patiently...

    Louis,

This is a very moving piece and your arrangement does it much more than justice. The choice of instrumentation was perfectly suited to the character of the piece and the performance was superb. Bravo!

Now get past that writer's block and write us something, lol. When I feel uninspired, I do house work or cook a nice meal.

Louis, my friend, thank you for this. Felix Mendelssohn's
work is very dear to me, going back to ancient times
(er, that is, college) when I studied many of his pieces,
    including the Characterstücke.

A very beautiful arrangement for strings, Louis. Many
    compliments! Superbly done.

    All my best,

This is a Mendelssohn composition I’ve never heard of… very beautiful.
Somehow hearing this now as a piano arrangement would change the tonal characteristic.

The long sustaining strings truly brings out the emotional depth of this piece.

You’ve created a very moving and wonderful work, Louis

    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for listening, Jack. I am working on my own music but it goes very slow. Anyway, I'm glad you liked this arrangement. It does indeed sound Baroque. Maybe that's why it draws me so much.
