Well, perhaps it was Stephen Foster Garritan. Your profile lists location, Orcas Island; province/state, Alabama.

Well, I see that Gary has towed Orcas Island a bit closer to home. It has been moved from Alabama to British Columbia!

    Richard,

The San Juan Islands (which includes Orcas Island) were originally part of British lands (British Columbia). There was a rather nasty war fought over a pig and the islands then became part of the USA. The pig was the only "casualty" of the war and the incident resulted in a treaty setting the Northwestern boundaries.

Yes Orcas Island is a small island...

It's so small, they recently had the whole island carpeted.
80 cents in a cab from one end of the island to the other--I'm talking small
Rhode Island can beat the cr*p out of it in a war. This is NOT a big island.

With thanks to the movie Arthur.

The island is so small it actually has hand-rails around the entire coast, so the few residents don't fall into the water. Gary and his wife can walk and hold hands, just so long as there is no one else on the sidewalk - there just isn't enough room to squeeze by.

Towed to Alabama? I'm surprised it didn't just float out into the gulf...

Ok, that last part I made up.

Ah, the good old Pig War of 1859.

At least Gary has something like the Pig War to attribute to his area's history. Here, we had our salt industry decimated by the Johnstown Floods of 1889 and 1936.
