Topic: Flamingos for Violin and Orchestra

    Flamingos for Violin and Orchestra

I haven't written anything for an orchestra in over a year. In fact, I haven't written much at all the last few months....

I have finally «finished» a little piece for orchestra and solo violin. My wife always complains about the «modern» stuff" that I write. So, this time I decided to write something completely «not modern».... romantic, dramatic? If this kind of thing is not your cup of tea, then skip this one.

I used Overture4 to render this little piece. It is scored for the Strad and a small GPO orchestra (except for a layered solo horn from another library). It is simple music with simple melodies and harmonies. I hope you will enjoy it.

Modern is a very relative term in classical music. That said, I agree that this is not modern. It is also a very enjoyable listen. the renderibng is spot on and the material is great. The dynamics also help to set it apart from some of today's modern music which seems to be loud, louder and earbusting.

    Nice work.

It doesn't need being complex and difficult all the time. Nice opening and nice rendering with Overture. I loved it.

Did you receive your Steinway yet?

    Very beautifully done, Louis.

I found the solo violin writing and the orchestration very effective. In some ways it does seem modern, but with a Romantic flair.

    This is absolutely wonderful!
    Definitely my "cup of tea"!

Just so - ... perfect! Everything was spot on, beautiful melodies, orchestration, and rendering. This one, honestly, really blew me away.

Also, nice to know that there is another Overture 4 user out there.

    VERY much enjoyed!

This piece is very refreshing and of much interest!

With a dramatic beginning, through themes of surprising contrasting nature, your music is a mixture of boldness and gentleness.

It has a full, rich and colorful sound!

I find it romantic in a modern way and to me it doesn't sound simple.

You did a marvelous job! I enjoyed it very much!

    Thanks for sharing!

Starts with a great "bang" before it really starts to sing.

Love the violin near 1m. Dynamics are well placed and
give your piece a lot of contrast. The violin solo around
2m 30s is really beautiful. Nice presence with the violin
    sound "out front."

Even though the orchestra plays louder sections, the solo
violin can be heard very distinctly.........Nice mixing here.

WOW. A great piece, but all of a sudden it came to an
abrupt close. Is this intended or did I miss something?

I sure didn't hear anything simple here. It was quite emotionally complex for me. It made it very interesting to listen to. I like where at 2:05 it becomes light hearted, resolves and then becomes serious again.

It is done as usual with great percision and perfect taste.

This is definitely a Bravo work.

Very convincing the strings. Your work has a dramatic elegance and an eclectic sound plenty of classicists and romantics reminiscenses.
