    Omnisphere RANT...

I'll try to do this as professionally as possible here... FIX OMNISPHERE ..

I had a song loaded while in cubase 4.5.2 today, with omnisphere.I then bounced the plugs down to audio down.. I then removed the omnisphere vsti's ... AND THEN, Omnisphere removed itself along with my project? ?
So it's crashing my hardwork this is unacceptable.. Rant ended..

you mean the cubase song file and the omnisphere VST are no longer on your harddrive?

    Re: Omnisphere RANT...

Back.. No because I didn't have auto save on nor did I save the project. The reason being I've never had a plugin crash my Cubase project to where it's poof gone like Omnisphere is doing..
I have had crashes before ,but there's a warning and then I can save if need be.This is a lesson obviously,I have shook it off and re-created the project from scratch, but that's not right at all. This one isn't going to work for me if it keeps this up.Forget patches, lets get this stable first..
Thanks for responding... I know I know save,save,save... But at the same time,fix,fix,fix..

    Re: Omnisphere RANT...

One must remember that Omnisphere will suck your CPU dry, unlike other plugins. Your problem may be CPU overload, wherein Spectrasonics can't fix this, other than waiting for Intel or AMD to make faster CPUs.

    It's a hog, but it's a prize winning hog.

Who says they can't fix it. Who says that it really needs this much CPU.

Maybe it is actually doing something that really requires extra CPU processing, such as anti aliasing processing type things. But I also know that if you look at software fix lists, there is generally CPU optimisation sometime after release, and sometimes major CPU reductions.

Do you actually know that this can't be done here!

    Re: Omnisphere RANT...

If you have questions Omnisphere performance, please see the "Performance Issues" FAQ at support.spectrasonics.net. I doubt the problem reported in the original post is related to performance though. In fact, since it happened after Omnisphere was removed, it's hard to see how it's related to Omnisphere.

However, whenever you encounter a problem that you suspect is related to Omnisphere, please contact support at spectrasonics.net with the details and we'd be glad to look into it.

    Re: Omnisphere RANT...

I don't have Omnisphere but I do have Cubase - did you also lose the audio files that were bounced down. These are saved as you go along in the folder marked for audio. You cant start a project without showing where the audio is to be filed. If theyve gone as well then something really weird is happening because the would need to have been erased (remember if you don't save the file after using audio a drop down asks if you want to erase the files saved during the session). In other words its fail safe, might be your machine thats in an error state.

On Sept. 19th I sent the following email to support:

Just installed Omnisphere and latest updates (Mac version). It seems there is no documentation in the user guide regarding the Envelope section on the Edit Page. Am I missing something?

Got a reply on Sept 20th:

It's coming soon in a future update to the Reference Guide.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

On Sept. 21st I sent the following to support:

I'm having a serious memory leak problem (Logic 8.02, MacPro 8-core, 3.2ghz, 16gig ram, OS 10.5.5). Both Activity Monitor and Terminal show same info.

I open Logic with the "Clean" file (one instrument track only) - Logic using 220mb of Real Memory.

Add Omni - Logic now using 480mb. Remove Omni - 427mb. Add Omni again - 501mb. Remove again - 447mb, and so on.

It's the same pattern with with repeated loading/overwriting of individual patches into a single slot. Logic's memory space climbed to nearly a gigabyte before I stopped. The only way to get the memory back is to quit and relaunch Logic. This is a very serious problem that makes it unworkable to audition patches if after finding the one I want I have to quit Logic to recover memory for other instruments/plugins, etc.

Stylus RMX exhibits same behavior, scaled slightly lower.

This is not just my system - other instruments do not exhibit this behavior (i.e., EZDrummer returns all the memory it uses upon de-instantiation). I know you guys are slammed with a new product release, but could you look into this ASAP?

It is now Oct. 6th and I have yet to receive any kind of reply. I have no idea if this is being looked into. This is a very serious issue for me because realtime sample streaming is what my computer is mainly used for which makes proper ram usage critical.

So Glenn - you being the chief software engineer and a regular personal presence here, could you look into this problem?

    Re: Omnisphere RANT...

Sorry, I don't see that here. What version of Omnisphere are you using?
