My only regret was not having the time to polish the tune up so there wasn't, for example, the lag time at the beginning (as Randy pointed out...hopefully with the purchase of Sonar today I'll finally be able to produce a more finished piece).

But, what the heck, I still think we all did good. So Bill and Derek, here's to you guys:

And of course, to the arranger of Entry No. 4, a big congrats for your arrangement. Nice job!!!!

If it's any consolation, I spent ages trying to decide between your entry and the one I eventually voted for. I really would have liked to vote for them both. I really enjoyed your entry, especially that magnificent modulation towards the end!

Bill, I found your piece very moving! I felt like I was transported to a room, lit by a bare lightbulb, overlooking a dark Parisian alley. I loved the moodiness.

    Derek,

I liked the way your piece made me feel like I was sitting down in a smoke-filled Brazilian night club. I liked the realism added by the Latin instruments!

I'm confident Daniel will present a melody which will tempt us all to enter for Challenge #19.

    Gary and All,

I quite agree! Everyone comes to the Challenges with their own talents and special skills and the Community gets to enjoy the results. Sounds like a great formula to me.

I thought your entry was delightful. Your use of contrary motion with basses heading south with violins heading north creates a vacuum adding drama. Nice flute choice (with vibrato). I find myself using the glock to add highlights as well. I liked the soaring horns at 3:15. The chords at 3:50 were refreshing and resolute.

I know I almost always run out of time in getting my "performance" in shape, so I know how you feel. The good news is that with each piece I seem to get a little bit faster at getting things just right.

Well done, Daniel! Congratulations on winning your second Challenge!

I thought your ornamentation in the winds was very effective and your use of the celesta/glock at 1:50 gave me the tip-off that you might have been the composer of this entry. Well done.

We're all looking forward to your melody for Challenge #19!

I'm so glad you liked it, Ken. I really enjoyed putting it together. And I love writing for flute (my daughter's instrument). Thank you so much!
