5th Annual SPOOKY CREEPY HALLOWEEN MUSIC CONTEST!

    CREEPY HALLOWEEN CONTEST

We've been dying to do another Spooky Creepy Halloween Music contest.

Now is the time for all unfortunate souls to offer up their scariest, creepiest, and gruesome music.

It can't just be boo-tiful music - it must be mortifying and make your hairs stand up on end.

Those who have been too frightened to post a demo, here is your chance to freak your fellow forum members with an eerie tune that will give all souls the creepy crawlies.

The winner will receive a free library of their choice (and maybe one of the new upcoming libraries) ...

Looking forward to hearing your creepiest tricks and treats.

Do you dare enter a horrifying song? May the creepiest song win!

    Gary Scare-ritan

Here's my entry. It's a throwback to those old monster movies of the 50's.

--Just like a late night movie- this post is a re-run from
LAST year's Halloween contest--For those who didn't catch it the first time, here's what I put together--BOO!

    Waltzing With Witches
    (click the title for MP3)

(image adapted from the poster I designed
for a production of "The Crucible")

    Written especially for the occasion
of the Garritan Halloween celebration, 2007

    ----------------------

Deep in the woods a chilling wind whistles through barren branches.

Before you see them, you hear their strange music, and then their rippling laughter as you make your way deeper into the macramé of under growth there in the heart of the forest.

There they are, in a small clearing, stately evergreens towering over the scene. Crones as well as young girls, laughing as they catch sight of you, and their whirling waltz around a campfire begins.

You're drawn into the group, and you grasp a welcoming hand.

    You are waltzing with witches.

The atmosphere of abandoned revelry gives way to an almost palpable and manic spirit which envelops you and your mysterious companions.

Dizziness - you let go the hand - spinning slowly and unsteadily away from the group.

Laughter again as you step back into the shadows, and even before you've reached the perimeter of those wild woods, you aren't sure if you've been dreaming, or if you indeed have been--
    --waltzing with witches.

Imagine staring into the darkness of an open grave at a dark cascet lightly dusted with dirt. the shadows from the trees seem to be trying to tell you something as the darkness draws in on you. muah ha ha(scary voice)

Here is mine. Its about 70/30 Garritan to other libraries. It features GPO Violins, Violas, Cellos, Basses, Flutes, Trombones, French Horns, Trumpets, Percussion (drums, cymbals, & toys), & various mallets. Also the Gofriller and Stradivari Solo Libaries.

There horns are doubled with ones which come with Logic. Some of the percussion, flutes, and mallets are also from Logic, as well as all of the voices.

I wrote this after reading Cormac McCarthy's The Road, which should actually be coming out in theaters in a few months. It was meant to go with the cellar scene (maybe one of the creepiest scenes I've ever read), and I'm curious to see how it was scored in the upcoming film adaptation.

    schneb,

I'd very much like to hear your Halloween piece but I can't get it to load. I see that it requires quicktime, but neither of my PC browsers seems to be able to get it to work. Can you possibly post it another way?

    Thanks!

Try the link again. There is a Windows version link there now.
