Found in Love - Paul Deakin

    Hi everyone,

I actually started writing this piece almost 3 years ago. I never returned to it until this week. It's now finished.

A personal work entitled Found in Love.

    Found in Love

    Best wishes,
    Paul

    Hi Kinvint,
the strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion are not Garritan libraries.

In this portion of Northern Sounds (Garritan Libraries) you should always state what libraries you have used, especially when it is not Garritan libraries. Thanks.

    Very nice writing and mix!

    Dan,

For your information (and others' ), your comment is inaccurate.

    Woodwinds: Clarinet is GPO
Brass: French Horn is GPO, Second Trumpet is JaBB
Percussion: Bass drum is GPO, Glockenspiel is GPO, cymbals are GPO

    Other GPO instruments used:

    Harp, Steinway Jazz piano.

Please ask rather than tell what instruments are Garritan and what are not. I'm quite happy to provide users with a list of instruments and libraries used, including the Garritan ones.

I don't appreciate being told that some sections of my work is not Garritan when it is.

    Thanks
    Paul

Paul, this is a delightful piece of music.

There are some wonderful harp runs, I love the use of the clarinet. The construction in general is excellent. I also love the colouring of the quiet with the loud. Nothing overdone.

I for one would be interested to know which libraries you have used on this.

If I had any comments at all of a critical nature, I felt there was perhaps a tad too much reverb.

    But I thoroughly enjoyed it!

    Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Alan,

Thanks for listening. Glad you enjoyed it. I agree that at times, the reverb is a little over happy I am still learning how to make the best use of Altiverb. Often, it is necessary to have two reverbs (near and a far) set on each instrument, and each of those always need tweaking.

It's a great verb plug in but requires some playing around with different settings on different instruments.

    Anyway, here's the library list:

As you can see in my above post, some instruments are Garritan (mainly the ones which I believe Garritan libraries have the best of) :

Harp, piano, F.Horn, Second Trumpet, clarinet, glockenspiel, bass drum, cymbals.

Everything else is EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Gold.

Nothing overly expensive (such as VSL) being used.

Thanks for listening and for your kind comments

    Regards,
    Paul

I always enjoy your work, Paul, and this is no exception,
with its carefully crafted colors. Beautifully orchestrated,
throughout... in full complement to its richly melodic
    tapestry of emotive ground.

A very moving piece, as well, Paul -- plainly from the heart.

    All the best,

    David

    Your very good at orchestration.

It all sounds so nice and full and flows nicely.

I'm looking at getting altiverb to create a more realistic sound. I'm using IK Multimedia's verb which is good but it's mostly for live studio work.

    This was very nice.

Thanks, David. I appreciate your comments on this and I'm glad you enjoyed listening.

It took some time writing and mixing and I still think it needs work but like all pieces I write, there has to be a point where I say "Ok, it is done.... for now."

It's very easy to be critical of one's own work though.

Thank you, Phil. What a wonderful compliment you have given me about orchestration I am certainly trying to improve my orchestrating skills with each new piece I write. I learn a lot from reading and listening to other work but there is still lots more for me to learn and improve upon. Bit by bit, I am understanding more about this type of scoring.

I actually used Roomworks for most of the reverb in this piece, only used Altiverb on a couple of sections. I've never used IK but I did download a demo of their choirs a while back. Wasn't impressed to be honest. EWQL Choirs still seem to be the leader at a budget price, in my opinion. They take some work though.

Still waiting for Gary to release Garritan Choirs (not just the Finale bundle )

Glad you enjoyed listening to this piece and thank you for your feedback.

    Regards
    Paul
